The Gambian government continue to ignore calls to release chief Ebrima Manneh from detention two years after he was picked up. Chief Manneh's detention has gained tremendous media coverage and international awareness.

Gambia may be small and looks like it is isolated from the rest of the world, but frankly no. The media is doing an incredible job of putting Gambia on the spot light especially on the side of Human Rights violations. Great job the Gambia online media and Committee to Protech Journalists (CJP) who are relentless on this issue.
The world is watching this regime closely and every violation is being recorded as future evidence...

It is truly hope-giving to see the calibre of Senators taking it this far. I remember Congress woman Betty McCollum of Minnesota once played a similar role during the arrest of the NADD three. Probably, Jammeh is biting his lower leap and tongue. Now that puts to shame our own Gambian Lawmakers (The MPs) who are silent about Chief Manneh's and others' affairs.
What is others' take on these MPS collecting tax payers' money at the national Assembly?

Dalton, people should not under estimate the magnitude of such pronouncements. Not because these US representatives are any extra ordinary or superior if you may, but simply because it puts Jammeh's regime under more scrutiny.
You are definitely right that the pressure Betty and others put on the Jammeh regime which partly led to the release of the opposition members. I remember we did the same thing in Washington when we visited three Congressmen including Adam Smith who is a member of the foreign relations committee. His office send us special letters acknowledging our visits and promise to bring it up with the State Department.
This is definitely a much more effective way of addressing some of the outrageous things the Jammeh regime is doing to our citizens. Gambia Diasporas should resort to such tactics when fighting a regime like Jammeh's. There are different ways to fight a brutal regime.
