I was one of those people who categorically oppose any coup d'etats especially in this fragile Africa, and in particular,The Gambia. Following the recent unimaginable actions of Yaya Jammeh, I wonder when is enough enough. Are we to allow a bully to keep bullying or should we stand up to him? As much as I hope that NADD could unseat Jammeh, I wonder how plausibe is it for Yaya to vacate his seat after losing an election. The guy has created an environment where his survival rests on clinging to power. Massive civil disobedience will only give Yaya more reasons to kill more people. I oppose the recent coup, but after careful thought, I keep wondering when is enough enough. Pray for God to remove him, solicit a so-called marabout's help, or turn the other cheek. The forceable removal of Idi Amin, Saddam Hussein, Mengistu Haile Mariam, Charles Taylor, Hitler, etc. had no doubt yielded mixed results. However, in some instances, it was worth it.
One thing I know is that Gambians do not like failures. Had the coup been successful, I wonder if people's reactions would have been different. I was glad when Yaya took over.
I am just curious what people think. Would coup be ever justified? I am yearning for answers.

You see blackberry2006 (you need to be with the time laugh), civil disobedeienc is very effcetive. One massive show of disapproval will make him think again and perhaps change him for the better. He cannot continue to shooot all of them. Right now, he is killing even when we keep silent. So it is justified to be killed trying than to be killed lying down.
Life is sacred and and should only be denied for a just cause. |
