Reports reaching Gainako has indicated that the threatening Secretary of State for Youths and Sports has been fired with immediate effect.

http://www.gainako.com/

He was scared of the inevitable and thus his reason for threatening a young reader.

PHew wonders happen in the world....

Baldeh don't believe a word that he was sacked because of the threat toa journalist. He was sacked because he was "mad" enough to speak to a diasporan newspaper especially one as critical about the regime as The Gambia Echo. Kaput!!! I saw that coming but did not want to add fuel to the fire. This a more serious crime to the Emperor than blowing off the head of a journalist with an RPG. Axi arranged his own funeral the moment he picked up that phone call from Mr Sankareh.

Shaka, I agree with you the guy may have been fired because he spoke to the Echo. This is exactly one of the reasons we gave at Gainako why the situation doesn't necessarily allow transparent reporting at all times.

If it was only the way we reported the story no ones job would have been in danger atleast not for the short term. I feel really sorry for these guys Jammeh is using like toys. Most of these people leave some credible jobs only to end up being humiliated and dumped.

I still maintain that Jammeh should sweat before having anyone to appoint to his positions. It is no longer a noble service to serve your country under Jammeh. He may end up importing secretaries of states from Cassamance.

This issue is very tricky as much as we may want to throw punches around. The Echo, The Point, Jammeh etc etc.

First of all Jammeh's gov't should have a free environment for the dissemination of relevant information for the consumption of the people. Where the free environment exists, there would not have been the need to muzzle Ministers. Better still Jammeh could have done himself and his senior gov't staff a favour by appointing a spokesperon in every ministry who would liaise with the press or anyone looking for information.

In addition to the above the judiciary must also be given total independence.

When this is done not only the press is safe but Jammeh and his gov't too are safe.

Jammeh may also want to ensure that Ministers and Senior civil servants are given the required induction before they assume office.

Any journalist or person who publishes lies could be sued for libel by the Gov't and vice versa.

Had this mechanism being in place Axi may have still being serving. I know his vast experience and ethusiasm in the area of sports would be missed. Good luck to Gomez

Anyway lets hope and pray that sanity returns to Marina Paradeas soon as possible.

Sanity cannot prevail in an atmosphere of utter calumny my friend. The minister jumped up when he felt threatened by the journalists alleged report , he reacted just like many of his colleagues would and what you get is the burning of Njammah, that place others call Utopia. The dance of the stone drunk continues and though I do not wish any official such bad treatment they the appointees are am sure aware of the possibility of going through these treatments. Our reaction to such dismissals will vary from official to official depending on how such person conducted him/herself while in office. I hope Sheriff takes note that he was just putting on the shoes of others who preceded him in that hot seat, one of the many molten thrones of officialdom in which no one is allowed to stay on too long and comfortable by the Lord of no Mercy Emit Atijamit of Cunning-Kaning-lies.The officials are all honorable men so we salute them for doing their jobs as directed by Emit.

That phrase is super,I am sure that you will be quoted many times, very discriptive and apt, maybe one of these days the throne will cool down and be a normal seat again !
