Gambians have been fooled many times. The biggest folly of Gambians is for anyone to believe in that fantastic Vision 2020. Was there a realistic study to back the vision? If not, it therefore is fantasy of the most fable manifest. This is 21 Century. It was possible for political demagogues to deceive whole populations when there were no instruments to measure false from real. That form of political deception is no longer possible. To move on as a nation, we have to be critically sensitive to our environment. We all know what is possible and what not. This sneaky scheme of buying time with false hopes is not taking us. It is not right that few individuals pursue their selfish goals and stay fooling the rest of society. This is not a magic show. If it is true that power belongs to the PEOPLE how good is it that gun men hold unto power by trick and crude brutality? The world economic order is facing critical threats. Politics of power mongering is doing Gambia no good. People have to have the decency to denounce the false hope and to get the economic engine restarted. You do not have to wait till matters get out of hand. To allow this scale of mass deception continue amounts to destroying a decent life for even unborn children. What is all these talks about SECURITY about? Because the deceptive regime is aware of every bit of the game, there is fear of being challenged. That is why all the guns. When the situation finally collapses, it remains for all to shoulder that pain.
The ugly signs of antagonism and resentment are no good signals. Regular tirades of people in responsible position blaming it on FOREIGNERS is not holding.
VISION 2020 IS FALSE:
Reason: Because it is not backed by any sound and realistic technical studies. It is a hopeless fantasy. If anyone is privy to a sound document backing Vision 2020 come up. Not the fantastic statements please. What material conditions are there in place to support this fantasy of a baseless Vision 2020. Strategies not fantasy (fantastic extension of hopeless imagination.)

i think Vision 2020 is a noble one. there is nothing wrong with trying to turn one's country to a middle income country with a highly educated workforce.
A lot has been achieved. The FACT that children do not go to School carrying Chairs and Tables is an achievement of a generation. thats only in the Education sector

The first few lines of this link read thus:
An essential ingredient of bad governance is that government rarely speaks the truth. It almost always tries to keep the governed in ignorance, tell half-truths or misinform them as much as possible.
There is nothing at all unusual in these lines it applies to ALL politicians(governments) worldwide

Comrade Karamba, VISION 2020 POLICY DOCUMENT THAT INCORPORATES A SOUND MISSION STATEMENT FOR APRC GOVERMENT & POWERFULLY STEER ITS AGENDA has been in motion over a decade now. You asked about SOUND & REALISTIC TECHNICAL STUDIES What I can re-called; is BACKGROUND OF ITS DOCUMENTATION CAME FROM A THINK TANK GROUP (OF GAMBIAN PROFESSIONALS, INTELLECTUALS & SEASONED POLICY MAKERS). They were mobilized through Government by then Former Secretary of State for Trade Dominic Mendy and they did a GOOD professional job. However ITS MISSION STATEMENT IS A HUGE CHALLENGE!
You also DECLARE THAT ITS A FANTASY That CONDEMNATION SUITS OPPOSITION VIEWS BUT NOT TO THOSE APRC GOVERNMENT WHO ARE IN CONTROL. Am not defending this notorious regime but if OPPOSITION PARTIES CANNOT FORMULATE ON ANY COUNTER-STRATEGIES, THE APRC GOVERMENT VISION 2020 DREAMS CANNOT FADE.
Refer also Bantaba Gambin politics topic TO CHANGE & BE ONE OF THOSE BETTER GAMBIAN LEADERS THAN THAT under http://www.gambia.dk/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6042
WHAT ARE THE OPTIONS TO PRODUCE SOMETHING BETTER THAN VISION 2020 POLICY DOCUMENT OF APRC GOVERNMENT

Those who laid hands on a document referred to as Gambia's dream to become Singpore of Africa and what is now claimed as Vision 2020 will tell you the documents relate in fascinating ways.
Kobo, there is something about OPPOSITION PARTIES of Gambia. With all due respect, there appears to be no SERIOUS commitment on their part to do anything other than FIGHTING to unseat or replace their opponent. That is different from the responsible pursuit of performing a GOVERNMENT-IN-WAITING role.
Don't get it wrong by any assumption that production of Vision 2020 document was not PROFESSIONALLY dispensed. No, that is not the angle. The point to take home is about PERFORMANCE and OUTPUT. Say for example, a vision was conceived from 1994. What are the PERFORMANCE and OUTPUT indicators to date that lend their credence to such a policy guiding Vision 2020?
Certainly, that has nothing to do with OPPOSITION parties. They have no influence or better put, no INPUT towards the conception, policy formulation or process monitoring and regulatory scheme of things. That is where the thin line exists between VALUATION of policy and politics. This one is in the sphere of DEVELOPMENT and least about POLITICS. Of course, since those engaging the driving seat happen to be there by grace of politics, that is an issue by itself.
By the way, two weeks ago, Dominic Mendy was interviewed over BBC as a CONSULTANT. He declared over the air how things are not working in Gambia, particularly as regards agriculture.
No doubt Dominic is one very brilliant professional person. He was tested and proven. He was hired and fired. Now he is private consultant. There are many like him. After falling away, they team up or engage in private one man consulting firm to bid for contracts from government and international development partners.
If only we know how much successful Vision 2020 stands from time of conception to date, we as a nation will be able to credit it where credit is due. Has there been any EVALUATION carried on Vision 2020 with peformance indicators of success or shortfalls? That would have been quite helpful. It will further help in determining FUTURE VALUE projections. "FOR DA GAMBIA OUR HOMELAND." |

Karamba Vision 2020 is an achievable goal and the fact is it's totally up to us to determine what role we play in achieving it. Recently you have heard of the rejuvenation of the kaur port and some sort of Interstate sytem throughout the length and breadth of the country. Villagers are no longer complaining about electricity their request nowadays are, we need internet cafes and computer labs am pretty sure you read the articles on the net daily so avoid ignoring FACTS. Believe me bro they may be taking baby steps but the neccesary steps are being implemented to make 2020 an achievable Vision. Just to enlighten you I will borrow this posting from "TURK"
"Isn't it just a social reality? I did little construction project when I was in Gambia. Done a lots of shopping. This Turkish Guy rule the construction sector. Lebanase are already dominating the business. Now many mauritinians and morrocons doing a lots of good business. Many corner stores owned by people from guinnie or mauritinia. Even, many white europeans establish good business. Go to rural areas. I have seen chinese buying property and doing agriculture work. It was so surprising CHINESE doing farming in Gambia. So whatever immigrants hating you see in Europe towards foreign immigrants by some nationalist/lower income groups 'foreigner taking our jobs s h i t' could not be happening in gambia as well?" Unquote .
The fact is we have given up our citizenry and vision 2020 will only benefit foreigners since they own almost everything . Gambians rather be the worker bee's in an already overcrowded civil service like Shaka said or run to europe or the Americas blamning it on greener pastures and opportunities. We as a people are not determined to achieve any long term goals, We expect everything to be done by the government yet they are providing the neccesary tools to make sure there is no exchuses for lack of resources. Am pretty sure you heard about the 500 tractors available for the farmers to use during the rainy season within a 4000 mile square area do the math and tell me if the agricultural prospects are possible if we stop vying for office jobs and migrating to europe. Of course it is , I don't even have to explain I promise you bro if today you decided to just grow peppers at a large scale in Gambia withing a year you will be considered one of the most successsful people in Gambia ,you can sell some and make some hot sauce with the rest nothing goes to waste.
I have said it over and over again pretty soon we will have a toubab president, chinese or maybe a NARR. That is exactly the resentment the toubabs are facing in regards to lurkers posting about TOUBABS in The Gambia. We already know they run the show and pretty soon their children will no longer be foreigners but eligible Gambians, Thats the fear and resentment you hear and see. The foundations for a brighter Gambia have all been set and it's totally up to anyone to decide what role they play...................................................................Peace

So far what you are saying is that he is the only driven entrepreneur in Gambia. It's tells you a lot when all he is trying to do is make livestock and meat available and cheaper for Gambians. The problem is he has been chosen as the problem solver since everyone is runing from themselves. Jammeh has all the powers we decided to give him...............................................................Peacequote: Originally posted by Karamba

Not to extend any benefit of doubt, the right thing to do is by writing to Gambia Journal challenge their information. It is very likely that they will own up to their error where there happens to be any. |

Corruption is so rampant in Gambia that the president openly said he will no longer tolerate it
Does this suggest that the trumpeting noise by Jammeh in his maiden coup days about FIGHTING RAMPANT CORRUPTION was only a scarecrow? Get rid of some corrupt people and take their position. Get more corrupt than them and turn around to fight corruption with intolerance. When was it that Jammeh recognised corruption? What a sharp contradiction!!!
