| Well said !Shaka, I duff my hat to you . The occurrence of false reports can be due to various factors chief among which is the muzzling of the press, leaving them to snout in the dust for news. I do not admire our boys on the ground and just imagine them trying to secure confirmation of reports/news from frightened officials , who smell danger or death of their tenure, when they see journalists in their sights; an abomination I should say. In the absence of this avenue can any one blame the likes of Manneh submitting what they get , be it a bit of fact embellished by some false endings? I think not . I do agree that the GFA is to be left alone and not to be fiddled with by other such; officials even if they are major sponsors, this is the domain of the elected Gambia football Association. It could be counterproductive and may even lead to sanctions by FIFA |

Thanks Dalton for ur kind words. I will also look at Kaanibaa's poems time permitting. I am most of the time dead-tired these days. Coming back to the issue of GFA, unless am mistaken the Following positions are voted and are NOT honorary. President, Vice-President and Secretary-General during a national congress of all differnt regional associations. So Gen. Lang-Tamba is elected member. The only honoary position in the GFA is that of Life President, who is the great OB Conateh FISCO. Before Lang got elevated to Vice-President he was FIFA/CAF security officer. A position he had since ceded to Modu Gaye deputy-IGP. The current President Seedy Kinteh was a Vice before to Alh Omar Sey.
For the records there are many good samaritans in the history of Gambian football, the likes of late Ousianou Njie (Hawks FC), OB Conateh(Wallidan FC), Willi Abraham (Real de Banjul), Seedy Kinteh and Long Tombong (GFA+AFC)just to name a few. These guys have made their resources at the disposal of their clubs and attimes national squad.
GFA has had its many problems or rather its politics. There was this tug of war between the city lobby group and the rest of the country esp Western Division. The problem between Ministry and GFA has been there also for a longtime. There was this greedy GFA official in the past who always wanted to sell his own goods/services to GFA esp during tournaments and when the squad goes to camp. At one time FIFA threaten this guy and the whole FA. Even if it meant the FA going bankcrupt he would make sure that all the monies owned to his buisnesses by the FA and paid in full.
The GFA has come a long way today thanks to the likes of Seedy Kinteh and his present team. |

| The late Ousainou Njie had a passion for the game, bless him . he was a patron to many young and upcoming talents. The current management is not doing badly as I can see from recent reports. The main patron now is HE the president I commend his involvement and his efforts at trying to spur the chaps .Gambian football was in the pits for so long it is refreshing to see them stand facing such giants like Algeria.Ate logos Amigos |

That is exactly my point Madiba. Lang should not be an elected GFA official but an honorary member. He had done a tremendous job for Gambian soccer both in the past and present and could continue to serve Gambian soccer as an honorary member of the GFA. However his present role as an elected Vice President of the GFA is in conflict with the independence of the GFA because he is a senior government official. He might not conciously want to harm the structure of the national soccer body but his presence there as the most senior military official in the Gambia might be too intimidating and overwhelming to GFA staff and the Sports Ministry official when it comes to critical decision making about Gambian soccer. The recent appointment of Paul Put as the head of the nation's senior team was one such instance. Mr Put's name was said to be forwarded to Sports Ministry by the GFA as a candidate for the Scorpion's coaching job. Upon vetting by the sports ministry officials, they were not satisfied Mr Put's character/record for whatever reason and made their disatisfaction known to the GFA. Paul still ended being the Scorpion's head coach on the insistence of Brigadier General Tamba even though the Sport's Ministry are responsible for his wages and allowances. The sports ministry's hands were tied from the word go and so did GFA officials who might have agreed with the Ministry official. A debate on this subject was not open for discussion/negotiation simply because of CDS Tamba's authority. There is clearly a conflict of interest here which does not bode well for the tranparency of both sports bodies.quote: Originally posted by MADIBA
