for those senegambian who wish to know the difference between a fina and a jali listen to finna dahaba from our able and tireless administrator of one gambia. gainde.
http://www.onegambia.com/orahist.php

a fina is a poet like as i once said here. whilst jalis are musicians, finas can operate without music. they were very instrumental in creating feuds between ancent rulers. they are also use as messengers or go-between during feuds and wars. but imagine a war monger being a peace broker. that seems to me like 'find a solution through instability and wars'. but here fina dahaba is talking about the rise a tyrant janke wally .this narration is one of the best. fina dahaba started from when janke wally was approached for leadership and the account that took place before kanjun danna was de-thrown. kanjun dana was the ruler who precede janke wally. the sorcerers found out that kanjun danna wasn't his father son ,so he must be de-thrown and replaced with a pure nyancho blood ,thus janke wally.
thanks gainde for this additions.

Thanks Santanfara for renewing the nostalgia
Thanks gainde for holding the higher grounds

The Jalis /Finoolu would have created Kaabu even if it never existed.
Their narrative is masterly not only rich in language but also picturesque... symbolism... proverbs...
