THIS IS FROM THE ALLGAMBIAN.NET WEBSITE
According to reliable sources in the greater Banjul area yesterday, Alieu Jobe, the former Accountant General and an alleged participant in the March 21 coup plot is said to have died. Prior to his alleged death, Alieu Jobe was said to be in very critical conditions and was taken to Medical Research Council (MRC) clinic for treatment but was refused by the MRC authorities for treatment. This was done to hide Alieu's poor health conditions from the general public, hinted our sources.
TALES OF TORTURES: Alieu and his co-accused are said to be under severe torture conditions. Reports say that, Capt. Bunja Darboe has lost both hands due to severe beatings meted out to him and his colleagues at the Mile Two Prisons. On the night of the arrest of Sheriff Dibba, he was seriously beaten by security forces. People even fear that Sheriff Dibba's body may not withstand the torture he had received. Abdoulie (Lie) Conteh, former major of Kanifing Municipal Council is also said to have been seriously beaten and his (Lie Conteh's) death is widely talked in the greater Banjul area.
DABA MARENA - former National Intelligence Agency director: At the moment, Mr. Marena's Kanifing Estate compound is full of mourners. People come in their large numbers to pay their condolences to his family. Also, his two wives are currently observing the widowhood.
BAI CHAM: An employee of the Gambia International Airlines (GIA) has been released but is said to have been suffering from serious beatings from the security forces. His body is still swollen.
YANKUBA TOURAY: It said that Yankuba Touray (Yanks), Secretary Of State for Agriculture and ruling party national mobiliser has been arrested. At the time of going to the press, we are still investigating on the alleged arrest of Yanks. We promise to clear the air on the arrest of Yanks and Alieu Jobe and Lie Conteh's reported deaths.
MAJOR PIERRE MENDY & ABDOULIE KUJABI: Both visited Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital (RVTH) on Tuesday for treatment under heavy security.
PREZ YAYA JAMMEH: Yaya is reported to have been visiting the prisons to witness the beatings of the accused coupists. He gets infuriated when the detainees are being beaten and will tell them that they (coupist) are very ungrateful to him because he has helped them to elevate their living standards, but on the whole, they had bad intentions for him.
It could be recalled that Jammeh in his first reaction to the alleged coup plot has threaten that he would "set an example to put an end to this treacherous ..."

Please don't spread rumors as serious as these sickening ones. We need facts rather than unreliable information. Please don't aggravate the terrfying situation affecting victims and families alledged to have been arrested and detained. I pray for no more alarming news. However lets follow developments from reliable sources of information. Keep the situation calm and don't bring horror news! The families deserve consolation. |

Kobo, I agree with the details are horrendous, but surely that is the point of open debate, I personally would like to see some of this backed up. If we censor what is written then we are jsut as bad as the government. regards |

Wow wow. The smiling coast has now become a gaping mouth crying and bleeding. gambia has never seen this in our history. Do we deserve this. It is any body's guess. In my public life, i have now agreed that 70% of all rumours in the Gambia are correct.I hope they are the 30% exception. He that tastes life will surely taste death and we will all stand before the Lord and account for our actions. |

Maybe am out of touch, is it promulgated in Gambia's constituition to beat anyone to death? What's wrong with sending them to jail for life when found guilty? I think vultures over a carcass behave better than many actors in African politics.
We eliminate one and other in black Africa while the rest of the world looks on. Shamelessly, black Africa demands respect from the rest of the world. Respect is always earned. |

That is why we need to stand up and condemn injustice when we see it beacuse we might fall victim one day. Bamba, do we have a constitution. May be we do. |

Exactly. When jammeh started his killing spree in November 11th 1994 we ignored it. Now almost everybody in the Gambia is either directly or indirectly affected.
This is out of hand and must be stoped. THIS CANNOT GO ON. Accused persons should be brought before the courts and if found guilty so be it. jammeh cannot totally ignore the judicial system like he is living in a different planet. Insha Allah one day he will justice.
Sometimes I wonder if jammeh has got a living parent. I cannot see in any way how a parent can sit by watching a child behaving so brutally like jammeh without doing something. Perhaps he does not care one bit. |

We have learnt from history that we never learnt from history. |

Jambo, am afraid is not about censorship but I don't want hear or baseless stories like these to feature again. Am sorry to say that they are found to be false within 24 hours. Rumours encourage confusing the whole situation and a big setback in our efforts to address pertinent issues in this forum. Goodluck and let the debate be more vibrant! |

Kobo, at what stage do you decide it is fact or truth, 24 hours in europe or usa to verify a rumour, one week in the gambia. How do you know they are rumours, did you speak a reliable source in the Gambia.

Of course yes 100%. My advise Jambo is for us to follow developments and investigative journalists to report their investigation. Thanks for your interest to scrutinise and encourage others to uncover a lot or continue to talk to much without censorship. |
