This from The Point.
http://thepoint.gm/africa/gambia/article/2008/5/19/president-jammeh-gives-ultimatum-for-homosexuals-to-leave

Snippet.

Monday, May 19, 2008
President Jammeh has seriously denounced the practice of homosexuality in the country and has given last Friday as the ultimatum for culprits to leave the country.

Speaking last Thursday at a victory celebration held at the Buffer Zone in Tallinding, President Jammeh said that a legislation“stricter than those in Iran” concerning the vice would be introduced very soon.

He maintained that The Gambia is a country of believers, noting that such sinful and immoral exploits as homosexuality would not be tolerated in this country.

He avowed that he would “cut off the head” of any homosexual caught in The Gambia

this is deep, on my last trip there were a few gay people there, but not in public, what promoted this statement.

I wondir if "gay" gambians will try and seek asylum in a foreign country based on the Gambian government's anti-gay policies. Will we also see a large number of Gambians who illegally enter western countries claiming they are "homosexual" and if they are returned will suffer persecution and even murder.

Maybe jammah will use this as a tool not just to get rid of homosexuality, but also to get rid of any dissenting political voices.

I really hope the "hindus" have got it right. If there is any justice you will be reincarnated as a "homosexual", and then you can find out what a pain it is having to deal with primative ********s like yourself.

the lunatic is running the asylum
perhaps it would be more apposite to "cut off the heads" of people who go around promising to cure Aids and TB with a bit of grass, as they are far more likely to damage the general populace than a few homosexuals, hey Mansasulu? and lets not forget those heinous criminals like daniel pearl and ken bigley. all of whom, of course, deserved beheading ,as a result of some edict from some nutter, somehwere, in the name of something.

Jambo - it is a human right issue.
I am sure people would not use this as an issue for fear of the consequences should they be returned.

The following is how President Ahmadinejad is able to continue his speeches "In Iran we don't have homosexuals"

According to Iranian human rights campaigners, more than 4,000 gay men and lesbians have been executed since 1979. The last reported case of the death penalty imposed against a gay man was that of Makwan Moloudzadeh, 21, who was executed in December after being convicted for sodomy, or lavat, a capital offence under Iranian law.

He'll have read it in a book somewhere, no doubt This whole issue reminds me of the delusional rantings of a certain Austrian that weren't taken seriously enough until it was too late!!! (Peace in our time, NOT!)

Oh MeMe, you made me laugh (again) ! I suppose Mansasula was suddenly rendered speechless, or (s)he had second thoughts (better not post, doesn't matter what i will say - i will be walked over).
But of course this is very serious business and rather sad for all the Gambian homosexuals (don't for a moment think there aren't any) that will feel they will have to go 'underground'. 'Worse than Iran'?? What's worse than being killed for your sexual preference, never mind by losing your head literally or by being hung..........Of course this is a human rights issue!! The moment a homosexual is killed because of Jammeh's decree, i will never set foot in the Gambia again all my life - i swear.

Glad that I brought some light-heartedness to this dismal topic, Anna . And even more glad that you are taking a righteous stance against the evilness that is Jammeh's decree

Didn't know my posting did not post completely. What I was gonna say was that I will have to agree with the tyrant on this one. Homosexuality is not a way of life. It is a deviant vice. With all my criticism of him, I must say he is spot on as far as this one goes.

Please read this from DO

http://observer.gm/africa/gambia/article/2008/5/19/no-room-for-gays-in-gambia

President Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh, on Thursday, gave less than 24 hours (until last week Friday) ultimatum to homosexuals, drug dealers, thieves and other criminals, to leave The Gambia or face serious consequences if caught.

I think he is clearing and cleaning up the country and some people are not going to like it, what human rights to drug dealers, thieves have.

In English prisons they have the lot, there was a case last year where a convicted drug dealer refused to appear before a judge who had been asked to make a confiscation order( 4 million pounds drug money assets) to be confiscated, this particular prisoner apparantly had a nice cell and he feared that if he were appear before the judge his cell would be reallocated by the prison authoritiese and he would not get a nice cell again he quoted his Human Rights, quite true but not in the spirt of what the Human righta was supposed to be about.
The judge was furious but couldnt do anything about it.
