22680 for nov 2007 compared to 14400 nov 2006, up 52%.
if that sets the trend for the past season, maybe people are wrongly pessimistic. but that was before the credit crunch hit. brits are still the biggest proportion of visitors of that figure, model age group 45-49! 201 by sea, spanish, dutch and about 12 by land.
have not seen figures for the rest of the season. probably take months to process and release.
i have e-mailed the gambia tourist authority for their figures - not expecting a response any day soon, however!

Thanks Lurker 52% increase no country would think that bad! could you tell if these were reliable figures,i.e. could you obtain figures from more than one source?

Interesing figures for the month of November and not being the summer season
So 22680 devided by 4 weeks = 5670 devided by say 300 passengers per plane = 189 planes per week I dont think so not even in the high season

your maths is wrong!
that should read 18.9 planes per week , from all original destinations...easy!
in the heyday of the 90's there were 100-120,000 per season, dropping to 75 000 a few years back.
general perception is of a poorer last few years , but not the worst.
wait til this past seasons figures are complete and then compare with next years. i think there will be a big fall from euorpean destinations, especially england.
unless they massage the figures.....

So whos kidding who and why. You only had to go round the bars and restraurants this year and see that they were noticeably less busy than last tear and in the summer season and all the owners were saying how less busy they were this year So why fudge the figures because it can not be admitted that the revalueing of the Dalasi has had an inpact effecting all Gambians

Sorry yes your right I made a mistake the figure should of been 18.9 not 189 Ok lets call it 190 planes per week that 38 per day over a 5 day period and if they fly 7 days a week which I dont think they do even so if they did its its 21 planes a day I dont belive it Its a lie

GUESTI MATION TIME 19 planes a week is good for gambia,
19 x 300 PEOPLE each plan = 5,700 passengers per week,
4 weeks pe month (average)
4 x 5700 = 22800 per month season bottom line 4 months top line 6
4 months x 91,200 passengers
6 months x 136,000 passengers.
did Gambia receive that amount of visitors from Oct 07 till march 08 if they did then figures are ok.
I hope that helps.

Snuggles, there are weekly flights from the Scandinavian countries during the winter months (ca. 3 per week). SN Brussels also have weekly flights (ca. 3 per week) and Condor Air too have weekly flights from Germany.

The figure of 22680 tourists for one month in November is a very good figure bearing in mind that it is the WINTER period. This figure which has been pointed out equates to 19 flights per week @ say 300 passengers per plane.
But one must remember not all flights are full and there are occasions that flights have been cancelled through lack of sales.
Not with standing that I did some research on the number of flights for the summer and winter periods.

Summer Winter

BRUSSELS AIRLINES 2 2
CONDOR 0 1
SPANAIR 1 1
THOMAS COOK 0 2
THOMSONFLY 2 1
FIRST CHOICE 0 1
MONARCH AIRLINES 2 2
TRAVEPORT 1 3
TOTALS 8 13

These figures were obtained direct from the airlines so it appears there are more flights in the winter which is hard to believe.

So the winter figure of 13 flights leaves a shortfall of 6 flights totaling 1800 passengers per week * 4 weeks = 7200 per month which leaves only 15480 which is still impressive IF TRUE
