If everyone adhered to this practice it would definitely solve our dependence on foreign rice. http://observer.gm/africa/article/2008/4/25/gambia-can-be-food-self-sufficient-if

Good vision that needs to go beyond rhetoric, especially when we know that there is no hesitation in putting a child’s food into a car engine and rice exporting countries are considering building a cartel like the OPEC.

Reminds me of D.k. Jawaras Tay-Sittoh and the Jahali -Pacharr projects which were good and ambitious. But the problem at implementation was lack of adequate workforce and high cost of fuel.

Rice is not the only staple food; there are other sorghums, maize/corn etc(for example findi is now very expensive due to the fact its not grown as much as it use to) not just for the sake of variety but also because they are more nutritious than rice. In the same way, it would be good to experiment making bread from what is grown in the country.

Good note Janko, Mr Jatta is a rare breed among African academics. To swap the three piece suits and "grand bubus" for a "daba kurto" and wellingtons to toil in the mud as a farmer indeed laudable. The African intellectual can be easily characterized as the smartly dressed, comfort living pen pusher for whom it is almost a taboo and demeaning to work away from the comfort of the office. Dr Jatta's effort is very much taboo breaking and a mental emancipation from a classic neo-colonial mentality of the pen pushing syndrome that had largely incapacitated human development in Africa. Through out the 41 years of Gambia's independence we have had a steady increase in the number of intellectuals and academics with all kinds of degrees and doctorates from diverse fields. They range from Agricultural Scientists, Engineers of all sorts, Doctors, Economist etc. Yet still if you look for their achievements in their different sectors through out their careers it is most likely to pale to insignificance. I mean how many bridges were built across the the River Gambia by Gambian Engineers, how many hectares of land were cultivated by the number of agricultural scientists or cure for any ailment found by Gambia doctors and so forth. I can understand the usual argument of limited access to finance to an extent but i am sure the handful of success stories were not millionaires before they started. What we have instead is the mad dash for the limited positions available in the usually overstretched public sector where sycophancy and nepotism is the order of the day. Intellectuals and professionals morphed into pen pushing politicians overnight where the longevity of your career depends on your political and social connections more than your professional competence. They clock into office and clock out anytime that suits them. They allowed themselves to be used and abused by politicians so long as they remain in the system and pick up their fat monthly remunerations along with what they had embezzled. It is not unimaginable to see a medical doctor employed as Minister of Defense, a seasoned economist as Minister of Forestry, a PhD holder in Engineering employed as Minister of Women's Affairs and so on. They got so hooked to the system that being made redundant mean going back to rags and poverty. Africa's problems should mostly be blamed on these lazy and greedy low lives. So it is very encouraging and refreshing to have Mr Jatta trying to reverse this trend for the good of the nation.

King Shaka am glad there are people like you on this bantaba who can elaborate on things better than i can without being a foul mouth. Am pretty sure you also know that in every Gambian household there is that notorious little brother that just can't be tamed. Bantaba has one and it's in denial..............................Peace

Moe you know you are cute. Since i am not allowed to tell you what or how not to say things, i will just leave it to the freedom of speech brigade to ponder. You know it could be a mad world in the land of freedom of speech sometimes. In one instance they denounce all form of censorship and then the next minute they hammer you for talking in your own style. To borrow their won language, "i am not a moral adjudicator".

Hie Moe
I read you loud and clear and wait for more insults from you and the joy of those who enjoy them. As I said before keep them flying and if you can do more than insult you are welcome may be that way you can silence me and my constituency. That is a sacrifice I am willing to make for my country Gambia. There you go and over to you .

Kaaniba I think Moe takes FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR HIMSELF AND NONE CONDONES HIS FOUL PLAY AND ATTITUDE TOWARDS OTHERS. However MOE DESERVE CAUTION and that would be privately addressed through e-mail by Admin.

There are GREAT POTENTIALS ON MOE IF THAT DISCIPLINARY MEASURES WORKS. Do not underate him on GAMBIAN POLITICS, AS THESE INSANE OR FOUL-PLAY ATTITUDES ARE TYPICAL WITH US WE HAVE WITNESSED SAME CRUDE EXCHANGES IN THIS FORUM & REAL LIFE AT HOME?

Quotes for example:-
Tamsier Posted - 08 May 2008 : 17:29:51 on World Religions topic- HEBREW so-called NEGRO; "Mansasulu, you can worhsip any god you wish, that is your choice, this was a discussion topic, there is no need for insults - and especially to the Serere and Jolas. Why do you find the need to do so?"

PEACE!

Kobo ,with all due respect to you I take your point and as i said;
Thats alright by me and if I also do need cautioning let it be so done, I want to apologize for any abusive language i may have used on this forum and this is to every reader who deserve my respect.I note also that Moe is a giant in politics and has such a stance on this forum. Thanks for letting me know now, I just do not care that he choses to be abusive to me because of my postings that is his right and if he is okay to do so it is up to Admin. or who cares. As I said elsewhere we all can chose how to conduct ourselves here or anywhere and how others see us is not for us to chose. The Gambia belongs to us all; even those of us midgets in politics and we should if insulted accept that as a prize to pay for standing up and thus I accept the insults .

No disrespect meant Kaaniba but you have to understand that I ain't the only Political giant here. It's all of us bro, including Kobo ,Madiba, Shaka,Dalton,Lurker and everyone who is participating on this forum. It all just depends on how you feel. Most of us have the potential to be whatever we dream, but some have decided to render themselves worthless and what can such a man do for Gambia.Remember bro there is a lot of kings on this forum and i don't even have to call their names .................................................Peace

Big Moe,

Thanks always!

I knew there is a Moe that others don't know. While I may disagree with the 2pac's threads, we all thread in similar ways, depending on the temperature of the oven-game. Trust me, my bro.Madis will raise his hand and say "yes Dalton" because the two of us (myself & Madiba) had a tough time compromising values here.

I went through the archives and realized that Moe was more critical to Jammeh than any else now. When I joined this forum first, it was no other than the LS, the lurkers, the Moes, Gerubabas, the Hailes, the Shakas, the sabs, the Omegas and all others that sharpened my teeth. To that, I am ever grateful.

Like bro Madis put it, I am glad you & bro kaniiba realized the way forward.

Always that little lad of yours,
Dalton

One has to accept the truth , take what is false instead or the middle ground, that is what the wollof would call RAMBAAGE, an old fitter/auto mechanic had a wild time chasing after us little urchins who enjoyed taunting him by some foolish song. 'Mr fitter cook bejaneh! mister fitter cook bejaneh!' we used to sing, what it is ,is that he was perceived by us as a bachelor who could not afford a wife and so cooks for himself. Foolish isn't it. But we were children and any thing that gives us fun and a good chase was okay. He reported us to our elders but they told him that it was child's play thus harmless. He however could not accept being made fun of by some one else's child. He set a trap and one day caught us and gave us a very good hiding. Our old grand pas went after him and he retorted that since they were not willing to accept the truth they most accept the lie, NE KULEN CHI DEGGA, NE KULEN CHI FEN, YEN ANG CHI RAMBAGE!, he added. As for Moe I take it that you enjoyed insulting others and so I decided to offer myself as the target for all other posters , so you can insult me when ever some one writes a posting you dislike. As I said I apologize to every one for using abusive language on this forum and regret having done so. From now onwards I take it I have the right to post what I like and pay for it by your insults. I am not a small boy and age wise I also thank Allah (SWT) that I am past that age of childhood escapades and foolishness. I also take note that you did posted some anti Jammeh writings in the past. which i believe was your choice to do and i hope you were not insulted for so doing as that would have been a travesty in my judgment, had you been ; i guess you would not have enjoyed that at the time.I cannot stop you or any one from writing according to your choice but believe as you do that we can say what we do not like about the said writing .Limiting myself to that right I there fore took exception to your chosen method of being abusive and using it as a ready tool on this forum for you against all others is what I challenged. Like I said I am not a giant but a midget on the political platform and with my tiny eyes watching out to see that justice is for all.I thank all other members who sent in their contribution on this issue and once again offer my apologies WA SALAAM

Bro Kaniibaa,

I think you just did fine. It is a sign of your humbleness. The threads of yours I followed here are of real pride. However, I will caution you not to let this fiasco get to you. You are a great educator and a humorous kind of our time. Personally, I disagree with Moe's 2pac postings. I hope with your 360 degrees turn towards a peaceful threading, he will recognize your sober mood.

With Moe's sudden support of Jammeh, in the way he is doing now, makes me wonder if he is not a victim of that Kanil lai connoction....they normally call 'magic bottles.' It is a powerful one.

Jammeh jakut bajut fuukof, pana soffoh...buggeh lolei. Nyaa sabarr...

Give us more humor as time permits you.

E'safoh saf...hula kay foni...
