| I read the newspaper article with disbelief (as with the other recent Austrian kidnapping case).... my first thought was extremely uncharitable .... Austria - birthplace of a certain A Hitler and still today (it would seem) a hotbed of national socialism .... do I need to continue?? |

well,
i think at some point its would be fair to ask why how come Austrians seem to keep children in their basements for years. this I think is the second time. who knows how many are out there?
i think the general policy in Europe of ''minding one's own business'' and not care much about what happens next door will be reviewed seriously by society at large.
europeans will have to learn to live as communities again and give up the individualistic ideals.

You are absolutely right, njucks - this is what I thought when I heard these horrible news. I asked myself if something like this could happen in Gambia, and I think that it would be almost impossible there. Not because Gambians are better people than Austrians, but because social controlling is much stronger and it is very difficult to do something in secret - unless you are very rich and live behind high walls like a European.
But I think something like the Amstetten case could happen in any Western country - including UK, dear MeMe.
Austria is conservative and racist - like most other European countries. Therefore the comparison with Hitler is typical tabloid crap. My niece in Scotland (she grew up in a place very close to Amstetten; I myself passed this monster father's house more than a hundred times) told me about the debatable reporting in UK. We should not forget that the raisons d'être of those newspapers are disinformation and the promotion of prejudice and disunity. |

MeMe, 'your own words' appeared before in several British and US newspapers and TV stations. I guess you are the journalist who wrote all these articles? 
I agree with the Amstetten mayor who said that those who sit in the glasshouse shouldn't throw stones. UK and the USA are up to this very moment engaged in two of the worst wars of aggression of this still young century. UK is the nation which allows genetic experiments to an extent a nazi scientist would have dreamt of. Shall I continue?
