“Medical Care Cheap, But….” By Abdoulie Dibba
The National Assembly Member for Jimara, Hon. Mama Kandeh, said that people pay D5 to see a doctor at Health Centres, in turn the doctor would give them a prescription to go and buy the drugs from the pharmacies, where one pays between D300 and D500. Hon Kandeh pointed out that he has heard people say that The Gambia has the cheapest health care system in the world. He said this is true because people pay D5 to see a doctor and from that D5 maybe one can be diagnosed. But, he said, that the authorities need to take a U-turn because it is just not possible to have all the drugs that one needs most of the time at health centres as doctors often give prescriptions to patients to go to pharmacies to buy drugs.
