I have been beta testing Windows Vista for the past six months. Vista Build 5342 (released 3/25) is the first build to come with the 'real' Aero Glass: fully scalable vector based transparencies that take advantage of pixel shading. The previous builds contained Aero Express and Aero Express with transparancy, not the real Aero Glass. Other notable improvements: a complete firewall, support for Pocket PC 2000, 2002, and 2003 synchronization, and more.
Vista is a beauty. Microsoft did a decent job with this OS. Mac users have been enjoying the environment that Microsoft is trying to attain with Vista ie translucency, security etc.
I have tested Vista on some old hardware. Installation is straightforward but the drivers become an issue on some old systems. To get the full effect, I installed it on some new systems and boy did I get enamored?
Overall, I will venture to say that if Microsoft can pull this off without much delay, it will be another cash cow for them.

I have installed the BETA version of Vista Build 5342. I dont know about you, I installed it on a 64Bit, 3400, 2GB Ram, 200GB Drive, 256mb Geforce and I think VISTA at the moment is system resouce hungry to main all those high level of graphics. Its really resouce hungry and my pc's spec is ok but people with less will not enjoy the performance on it. |

I agree that the Beta is a resource hog. But the final product should have most of the kinks resolved before the consumer market get a hold of it. Running Vista on old hardware is just not the way to go. But with the price of hardware what it is today, I don't think getting a decent hardware to run vista will be much of an issue for most consumers. But I digress. |
