throughout history , human beings have influential personalities they listen to and obey.this personalities vary in qualities to a different degree. some of them are artist, some are politicians and others are religious spiritual leaders. what criteria should we look for in choosing the most influential person in history? this task in difficult and we may never agree on one person but it will reveal the characters behind our individual choices. please tell us who you choose. if say ,some one mention obama ,please indicate why him or if haruna indicate likewise. if Hitler or Lenin, give brief reasons.
thank you. i hope some elders take part ,it will tell us who the will must likely emulate.
who is your must influencial person in history? ghandi? marti lurther? malcolm? etc.even yahya jammeh.

Dear Santanfara
My influential person is Yahya Jammeh Jilanka; He inspires me to stay alive and I just cannot keep away from his every move from the daily politics to the curative adventures he has undertaken in the history of my home land Gambia. We surely are now firmly marked on the record books as a Nation Of Notable Achievers thanks to him.For eternity we shall be remembered .I just wonder where or how all this will end and pray to be around till then.

My dad! Of all the things I have gone through, educational and experiential wise I have realized that the key things that keep me strong and preserved are the things handed down to me by my father. In the midst of plenty he thought me to be simple, independent and self-reliant. My dad thought me, through his own actions and conduct, the virtues of selflessness, generousity, and accentance of all kinds of people.

My biggest idol is Nelson Mandela. Mandela is a very unique person. His sense of rightousness, determination, mutual respect, persistence, forgiveness is inspiring to me. He had a course he believed in and he stick to it. He was determinded to bring freedom and democracy to his people and he did. Reading about Mandela thought me that when one believes in something, stand firm and work hard for it. Nothing comes easy, but if one works hard for it, eventually it will come. I also learned that one person can make a difference.

Its Muhammad (SAW) for me. Simply because he was sent as a blessing for the whole of Mankind. The message he came with has had a lasting effect and touched so many people all over the world.

i have two - my parents. i cant say one without the other. the reasons are as follows:

-my father - for teaching me what being a man means, the meaning and value of family, to help those less fortunate and to defend the truth even if it leads to my death. to die with honour.

-my mother - for teaching me to give and expect nothing and the meaning of dignity.

I think/hope that the coded word in Kaaniba's posting is 'irony'.
Santanfara, much as i like this type of question - i have been digging and digging in my mind and in my life's experience, but i cannot come up with anybody. Instinctively, i am looking for a woman as an example. Mrs Clinton? Perhaps for her ambition and neverending energy to reach the top? I admire those things in her and i wish i could find something of that in me but to tell you the truth: if i were her neighbour i would probably not like her. Oprah: isn't it amazing how she can get all those people to say publicly what they were not intending to make public in the first place. Sister Teresa" how could someone be so self sacrificing in the service of others' lives........Well, i could never do it but also i wouldn't be happy with her kind of life.
Santanfara, what is it you want to know from us exactly? Who influenced my life mostly? Perhaps that is my mother because already at a very young age i vowed to myself not to
have a life like hers. Who influenced history most? Hard to say, because that depends a lot on where and when you were born. For us Europeans, you might say Hitler for instance
changed the course of history - though you will never know if WW2 wouldn't have taken place without him.
WHAT turned my personal life upside down? Meeting my partner in the Gambia, getting to know his family and their circumstances. I was travelling in other parts of Africa before but i never met someone who gave me the opportunity to get acquainted with African life 'up-close'. So: my partner was most influential, because meeting him changed my views on humanity and people's responsiblity in every which way and my life has never been the same since.

When an old African dies, it is as if a whole library has burnt down.

this question i asked was culled from an edition of the times magazine july 1974 . the paper questined different profesional people, from historians to military leaders, scientist to other scholars. the question was, what makes a great leader? throughout history who qualifies?

this are some of the answers paticipants sent to the Times magazine; a man named Willaim Mcneill have this to say ''if you measure leadership by impact, then you would have to name Jesus, buhda,Mohammad,Confucius, and other great prophets of God''.

Another contributor by the name James Gavin a military officer have this to say ''among leaders who have made the greatest impact through ages,i would consider Mohammad,Jesus christ, maybe Lenin,Possibly Mao. As for a leader whose qualities we could most use now, i would choose john f Kennedy''.

another contributor by the name Jules Masserman ,an american phycoanalyst and professor at chicago university have this to say ''leaders must fulfil three functions''. No 1. '' the leader must provide for the well-being of the lead''.

No 2.''the leader or would be leader must provide a socail organisation in which people feel relatively secure''

N0 3.That this leader must provide his people with one set of beliefs''. ''the influencial leaders in history are Louis Pasteur,Salk,Ghandi,Conficius,Alexander the great,Caeser,Hitler,Buhda,Jesus,Moses and some others''. '' Perhaps the greatest leader of all times was Muhammad, who combined all three functions. and to a lesser degree, moses did the same''.

that questionaire by times magazine was based on influencial leaders. i expanded the topic to include any influencial person so as to see who we will more less try to emulate ,who inspired us more. a lot of people choose mother teresa for her sacrifice and dedication to the poor and mandela, ghandi, martin lurther ,malcom for there selflessness.
it is quiet interesting how people are choosing their parents as an influencial personality for them.

a book dealing with influencial leaders are many but micheal h harts book on top one hundred greatest in history and thomas carlyle's book hero and hero wordhip are good reference for would be leaders.

Over 90% may be from ADOPTED PARENTS or THOSE WHO LOOK AFTER YOU WHEN YOU WERE BORN OR VERY YOUNG. Your PERRS, TEACHERS & environment as a teenage counts also.

Personally, I would go for MY PARENTS (MUM & DAD) followed by their DEEN AL ISLAM and influence of HOLY PROPHET MUHAMAAD (S.A.W). Care less about CELEBRETIES because am no KID!
