Alhassan, you misunderstood me. I was saying that since most of the countries that use the word toubab are French-speaking, it tends to disprove the myth that it came from the English phrase, 'two-bob'.
quote: I think the word is West African. This word is used by others who do not speak Wollof or Mandinka.
Of course I know it is a Mandinka word as well as Malinke, Wolof, Bambara and Jula (Ivory Coast), and some other related languages.
quote: The word is not wollof as we cannot atribut it to a wollof word.
I am not good with Wolof but as was explained to me, toub means to convert in Wolof.
quote: TUBI is quite different because we never converted the Europeans when they came to West Africa.
Not we converting them - quite the opposite! They trying to convert us to Christianity! |

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/7232327.stm I wonder that it didn't happens earlyer. maybe he was waiting for this moment of shacking by the rebels for that he to get more helps from French!. And west are still not to blames for all this catastrophic around the globe? Indeed I doesnt want mix my self again in this confusing /disturbing topic since i had discoursing with my daughter. But one most understands that when we said west mostly doesnt means ordinary people but of their politics! which conflicts is in the world today where their right hand are not behind. By turning this to racist/discriminating direction is ridiculous and baseless! But this didnt comes to me as surprise, as i write it earlier that some may turns this to negative points. in some point i real understand some of your points but is it necessary for going that much too far? It is always the politicians behind all the crying that we cry for. Alhassan. you real gets the point. we all have something to do with each other in one way or the others. thanks Allah that you cools down some of our temper before it gets out of control. I fell for myself sad for being a part of this kind of arguments.
I think its time to pull myself a little back.

Hmm, interesting, Mbay .... if on the one hand you are talking about people and their tempers and wondering why arguments get out of hand on this site then what has the link to this article got to do with this thread ie the meaning of toubab? Are you trying to instigate something here? If you acted in innocence then I would suggest you request that the Administrator move your posting to World Politics where it belongs! |

You are right i formerly starts to post it there(world politics) but then i change my mind to put it here because to me if toubab =too bad is in the air as some suggests then is some politician we maybe are taking about[? Sorry for the mistakes ] And dont get it wrong again as Instigations if that was my intention then i should do it earlier and clear. you may believe it or not but am affected about this thread of race too as how it seems ending that's why i took a cautions very earlier. You may also remembers as i wrote by talking about toubabs but not those... dose not meaning an one of you here and neither of those am doing my daily business with. I can stand with anyone in the way of religions or politics but not about an type of race, particularly in the negative ways.
