The world mourned one of its greatest comics ever when Richard Pryor died on saturday, aged 65. The pioneering black comedian, whose hell-raising, profane but candid style of comedy inpired generations of comedians, black, white or oriental. The great man died of heart attack after years of illness. He was born in Peoria, illinois, the son of a prostitute mother and former boxer father. He was brougt up by his grand mother who ironically owned the brothel where his mother worked. He suffered the unfortunate abuse of growing up in a whorehouse, and was exposed to an environment of drugs abuse, alcholism, crime and racism.

With sheer brilliance, vulgarity and a taboo-breaking style Pryor brought a new style of comedy that made the world laugh for a generation. He brought to the world stage a kind of comedy that could only be whispere behind closets in black America of his generation, thus vented his anger and bluntly expressed his opinion on a whole range of issues including racism, politics, drugs, violence, sex and so on.

Richard had a rather turbulent life ranging from multiple marriages, drug adiction to bust-ups with law. He was jail for three months for tax evasion and had notoriuosly set himself on fire after days on cocaine binges. He also suffered from multiple sclerosis in his later life as well as heart attacks.

For many ufforgetable years Richard Pryor tear apart comedic gatherings and left his audiences reeeling with laughter. Perhaps his greatest achievement was being able to inpire generations of comedians including Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, Chris Tucker.

May his soul rest in peace.

Below is some of Prior's convictions:

Marriage is really tough because you have to deal with feelings....and lawyers.

I went to Zimbabwe. I know how white people feel in America now, relaxed!! Cause when i heard the police car, i knew they weren't coming after me!!

There are two billion people living in china . That's how you know someone's doing some serious ****ing...

I met Regan at the white House...motherf****r looked at me like i owe him money

******s be holding them dicks too, jack. Some white people be going, "why do you guys hold your things?" Say, you done TOOK everything else, motherf****r.

(being the genius he is Richard can turn tragedy into comedy. After nearly loosing his life in 1980 when he caught on fire while freebasing cocaine. He ran down the streets in anguish. But he still managed to turned the experience into a laugh)

You know something? When you are on fire and running down the streets people get out of your way....except one old drunk who goes "hey buddy, give us a light"

When fire hits your ass that will sober you quick!!! I mean i was standing there on fire and someone say "wo!! that looks pretty blue" You know what, that looks like FIREEEEEE!!!

Fire is inspirational......they should use it in the olympic. I mean i did the 100 yards dash in 4.3(seconds)

Peace to you also Sister Omega. Pryor was a comic genius indeed. It's a shame really that fate had grounded him with such an affliction like MS, otherwise nothing could have stopped Richard from getting on the stage. He was not just a brillaint comedian and actor but also a pan-african, a freedom fighter and a true believer in freedom of speech. No other person in his generation has openly tackled racism more than Pryor. When you hear him talk you just can't but laugh your head off. But when you reflect on his joke afterwards you begin to see a serious side of him that wields a sword at injustice on all level. Be you a KKK sympathiser, an uncle Tom or a plain "******", hate him or like him, he was a truthful and an honest man.

Shaka Richard Pryor sure was an honest and courageous man especially when we consider the times when he started performing in. He was a real trail blazer, he tackled as you mentioned before social injustice and racism in American when our political heroes where being assassinated, and lynched. It's truly amazing how laughter can heal the world when underpinned by truth. Again Richard Pryor is a great loss to the world.

On another note though Shaka,I was wondering if hard drugs like crack, cocaine and heroine are associated with the rise of MS or is that MS awareness higher now than it was say thirty years ago? It would be interesting to find out if there is a correlation between Class A drug addiction and this disabilitating diease. I heard Larry King touch on this issue briefly with Richard Pryor in his last interview with him on CNN, and Richard told him that "it was just the luck of the draw." Hopefully scientist will look into this matter more indepth in the future to see whether MS is one of the side effects of drug abuse.

Hi Sister, i have wondered the same you know, but then again there are a lot of people with the disease and had never used drugs in their lives. So i would hisitate to say that his lifestyle has a link with MS. Am not sure of the level of awareness at the time he was diagnosed either but he for sure had no clue what it was at the time. As he later joked; i asked the doctor "what the f**k is MS?" he looked at me and said "er, er"....
