It has been confirmed that Baboucar Gaye, proprietor of Citizen FM died today Tuesday 30 October 2007. Mr Gaye served Radio Gambia and the BBC before starting his own media venture. Citizen FM was instrumental to Gambian mass media communication; the first venture to have newspapers translated and relayed in local languages. Just as it started, the Jammeh regime felt it was too much for anyone to give true information. Citizen FM was closed by government orders and Mr Gaye began a legal tussle that he was never to end in peace. Today he is gone in body, but his legacy lives. May his soul Rest In Peace.

In summer 2000, the high court ruled in favour of Baboucarr Gaye against the Jammeh Government. The court ordered the Government to return all assets seized from him, including his compound, the radio equipment and any other property belonging to him within seven days. I wonder what happened to his equipment afterwards.

My sincere condolences to his entire family and friends. May his soul rest in peace and Allah (SWT) grant him Jannah.

Oh My God.Allah is the giver and the taker,

HE has indeed taken a great son of our motherland in the name of Abubakarr Gaye(Baboucarr).

May HE guide this gentle, Gambia loving and the lover of humanity to his new home in paradise.

May he be forgiven all his sins.

Gaye is a true democrat.

His death is a great loss to not only his family but to the entire nation.

I am sure the likes of Gaye if were born in other countries,he would be honoured both in his life time and death.

momodou ,some sources have it that the late mr gaye was ill for a while.but as you note above,he was unjustly treated a by government that have no regard for the press.babucarr was a man with a mission and the thugish jammeh administartion cowardly and unjustifiablly stop him from doing what he enjoys most ie jorunalism.he sacrifice a lot to have his radio station back but the coward wouldn't let him.yahya have another blood smeared all over his face yet again.

You see while Baboucarr rests in peace, lets wait the end of his tormmentors.Who are out there to bring hardship on people they perceive as against their dictatorial policies.

May Allah grant him Jannah and give his family and friends to endurance to go thru this difficult moment in their lives. I really was proud to hear his voice as a youngster over the BBc. I think he was also part of the now defunct Senegambia Sun newspaper of the early 80s. His Citizen outfit Paper and Radio was formidable. It was a shame that the Jammeh gov't had to stifle it.

Adieu the Doyen!

I share my condolences to a great educator, mr. Gaye.

information i gathered from those that worked for him before, indicated he a pioneer of the point newspaper with Deyda & Papa Saine.. later left, to get his own paper, monthly to weekly.

whatever it is, shame to that administration that robbed him of practising his profession freely. he was humiliated, seriously and left to live with that trauma.

i wish him an eternal resting.

Amen, may his soul rest in perfect peace. He was a wonderful reporter with a great deal of experiance that we could have used him better.

It is the mark of intelligence to entertain an idea without accepting it.

KOBO

i am not sure if CHE could or would utter those words
