hi all, can people suggest original gambian girl's names which have special meaning or implication?
i am thinking of mandinka, wolof names etc which go back in time to tradition, folklore, culture, animism, dance, song, griot, nature, history, etc.
a lot of names are religious, mainly muslim, and i have nothing against them, but they are probably not originally gambian, so i am not really looking for those. looking for GAMBIAN AFRICAN GIRLS' NAMES. thanks

talikng of names, i used to live in Zimbabwe where weird first names were the order of the day. Here is a list of true names , no fibs.
no mocking here, just observational interest in cultural selection within in era.
reward
tarzan
bigboy
funboy
pea
cabbage
wireless
president
office
taxi
slowmotion
nofridge
surname pencil - 3 daughters - small, medium , large.
my fave taxi driver in gambia is called Manchester.

these were names of people i actually met or read of in articles in the local papers.

i think it is fantastic and wish the brits could be more inventive than the usual John/anne/etc etc.

Wireless was actually a waiter at a hotel in Kariba. i asked about his name and he told me his dad thought that if he called his son wireless, god would let him have one, one day.
good job he was not looking for a "three-bed semi with driveway and heated pool"!
