The Dutch touroperator Olympia Travels is bankrupt as of today. This means that a large group of Dutch tourists will not come anymore. lets all hope that Travelpoort and Sunrise are able to take over all the customers roger
short term effects will be that some hotels will stay empty for this season and that Transavia will probably stop flying at Banjul completely. long term effects can be a bigger problem because it was Olympia who was always strongly promoting Gambia as a tourist destination, the remaining Touroperatotrs are all smaller and do not have enough people and capital to really promote Gambia so in long term I fear a decline of tourists coming from Holland. At the moment there are about 30000 tourists from Holland every year, without olympia it could eassily drop below 15000 roger
these figures are scary for a small place like gambia that represent a drop of 50%, and it will be the people onthe grond who will feel i, htoel, taxes, waiters, restarants etc. watch the knock on effect.
