If a gambian man has been married to a english lady for 8 years and then gone and married a gambian lady, in gambia, without the permission of his 1st wife, can he divorce the 2nd wife or will it bring shame on him and his family. This is irrespective of what his 1st thinks and feels

What I meant to say is. Is it right that he cannot divorce his wife in Gambia as she is muslim, my friend is christian,as this will bring bad shame. Does it not matter about shaming his wife here or just his muslim "wife" |

I don't know what you mean by "bad shame" . What cultural context are you insinuating ? However , if you husband marries another woman , then he is not likely to turn his back on her in your favor. It does not have to be a Gambian ; any man who does that to you is most likely slipping away from from you , except in rare situations. |

This is not about me it is my friend, if it WAS me then I would be looking for a divorce, I am worth more. I am not insinuating anything I am simply asking a question to try to understand. He has told my friend that he CANNOT divorce his wife in Gambia, even though he wasnt even there when the marriage took place. This would bring bad shame on him and his family in Gambia. All I am saying is what about his wife and 2 children in this country dont they matter at all. He was already married here with a child and then took another younger wife in Gambia within their first year of marriage.

Well whether his wife and kids in U.K. matter or not is something for him to decide. I do know his action will be shocking to many Gambians including me. Is polygamy not illegal in U.K. ? |

Oh yes it is. Anyone who does this can be sent to jail for 6months to 2yrs then be stripped of their citizenship and then deported. I know this may seem drastic to some people but then we all have to think of the concequences that it brings for my friend, her children and family. |

There you go girl , this is the way I wanted you to see it. People should not be allowed to live and act like cutural savages. This is the 21 st. cc , and everyone is expected to comport themselves accordingly. |

As far as I am aware, divorce back in the days in gambia was a taboo, it was a shameful thing, but I dont think is like that anymore cause people are getting divorce all the time |

Kayjatta, thanks for that . It is discusting the way he has treated my friend and her kids but what hurts me more is that he is planting seeds in the rest of our heads and causing problems in other peoples marriage by saying "we all do it , it is expected of us". He gives gambians a bad name and no wonder people are weary |

She is trying to get him to leave, she told him she has had enough of all his lies and mistrust etc but guess what, he will not go and he say he loves her. If that was true then he would not have done that to her in the first place or more to the point treat her the way he is now. He has been telling her for 18 months that he is divorced after he had a child with this other "wife" but she found out 5 days ago, by accident, that he has carried on lying. |

I frankly do not think your friend deserve such a man , no woman does ! She probably should seek a divorce and move on with her life. |

I am never ever gonna let any mn treat me like that. What is she waiting for, kick his ass out. She is worth much more than that. I know that they have kids to think about, but what good is it for the kids to see their mother miserable all the time?? Tell your friend to kick his lying ass out the door

JANKY, he went and married some else and didnot tell her, then she can divorce on the grounds of bigamy. SHAME ON HIS FAMILY, what about respect for her. |
