Here is a nice site. I spoke with it's admin about a week ago. You can learn a lot pularr, and listen to music.

As per my observation in this vibrant forum, I dedicate it to uncle Santa, Momodou, Kondorong and all forum readers and contributors whose love of the particular music speaks for itself.

Kons; don't get too excited

Uncle santa; do sunnis listen to music at all??

Yooo all have a humorous thursday.

Note: By the way, "Jamtan" in pular means "peace only."--------direct translation. It is normally a respond to greetings, at any time of the day.

Jam wallah, jam nyanlah

JAM FINI.

TANA FAA LA, JAM TAN
HONO SUKABEH, JAMTAN
HONO NAID, JAMTAN
HONO BENG GUREH, JAMTAN
HONO PINDON JAMTAN

This is the best song for me from the site. See this link. It reminds me of the best times gone by that i still yearn for in my heart. I cried when i heard the song.

Sorry you cannot get a link but check under sounds and click on Saidu Bah regarding Hodu Music. Traditionally we called these occassions "HIRO" in Fulani mostly done at night. The Fulani music accompanied by a old instrument of "Nya Riru", "Nyan Nyol" and some sort of poetry just like the Rappers do today is fascinating.

I used to like the stories of Samba Gala Jeggi. ADUNA KO MERREH

“When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it--always.”

Help me here. May be my Fulani is not good enought. I saw on the site that tey translate the Fulani word "Sagata" as hard work. From what i know, Sagata is used to describe a teenager, an unmarried youth.

“When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it--always.”

AJAARAMA Dalton1 i cannot help but shed tears of nostalgia. The intro music by Baaba Maal brought tears to my eyes. This is because of my origins are partly from Fuuta Toro. Dedicated to ALL.

Mawdo Madiba

MIIN MINA NANI PULARR.SIMI MAYE NO, MII HAAL TA

I cannot find the music by Baaba Maal you indicated above.

You still owe me the translation of the Fulani phrase: NJOLEN NYAKI(lets enter like the bees do). When is this phrase said. Welcome to the secrets of Futa.

The Baaba Maal music is on the Flash link (flash intro) top left beneath the woman inset.

MEE YAEGEETEE SERANKULEH SUUSAA MAAIDEH. KOO PULARR MA NGAL LAABEE NOOBETEH.

The translation is a military tactic in invading the Kabunkas, by sneaking in their TATOES like bees, with aggression.

I was just teasing you for your choice of the fulani phrase "...NANI PULARR HA MAYEE" which is gramatically correct. Fulas use death to describe how skillful one is in a certain area of life. For example: MBO WAA WI OTO HAA MAYEE. Meaning he could drive a car very well. MAYEE is more like a figure of speech called hyperbole. Its like if i say "His eyes opened as wide as a saucer". You know eyes cannot open as wide as a saucer. It only shows emphasis. You must be very fluent in Fulani to use the word MAYEE in this case.

Saranhules are not afraid of death. You know what happened during the war.

No. You are avoiding the translation. Its a a fulani coded message. Its said when a stranger is around and its time for a meal and they do not want to invite the stranger. They would say the phrase Njolen Nyaki. Meaning lets go one by one and eat. Before you know it, every one had gone home to eat their portions and back to the Bantaba, and leaving the stranger wondering if the Fulas eat atall.

So next time you hear Njolen Nyaki follow the first person to leave the bantaba because its time to eat.

Kons.

me, too, as far as i know "sagata" is a teeneger.

"njolen nyakii". mimmi, njolata. Njolen/enter. nyakii/bees

hiro jemmah, yaddah bawdih lambuu.

night gatherings, accompanied with drums during wrestling.

Kondorong, i got you now. kah pulloh chuudiidoh./hidden pullo.

Madis, the admin to the site is a senegaleh, fluent in english & french.

I will learn a lot from this site my self. I think that our fula conforms with this one, 100%.

Our parents migrated from around futa toro/masinah, through kiang jali, and finally to sintet while in search of green pastures for their herds, settling in sintet, finally.

WO NA MI PULO. KONO MI NANI SEDAH. MIN KO GAINAKO WON NO MII. MII YIDDI KEDDAM, HEH MIDA HEBBI BIRADAM.

I know sintet very well. I used to visit the Bah family. Plenty of milk. (Sintet Fula Kunda). Nearly got ESIRABEH there. I was given NYAM JODDO and it nearly worked had i not called the spirits of Kaabu in time.

Pa Juta who is a gainako himself taught me some fula secrets. You know what i mean.

Another important feature of this site is the traditional big ear rings and necklaces worn by our women folks. The Bling Bling in America is not new. Its an African symbol of position and priviledge.

Close to this is a term called MIN KAL which is not spoken now. Its the first unit of measure and it formed the basis of trade in west africa. By 1795, commerece was growing and MIN KAL was used as a weight in gold from which every other goods are valued.

In mandinka, the big earings are called FORIO which is now extinct in our language.

Dont say. I have not heard of it. What a tragic news for me. I was close to the old man. Seriously i know him very well and visited him many times. He had always offered me sour milk when i visit and we made NJARO (diluted sour milk with sugar).

His house is on the extreme end of the compound on the right handside.

May his soul rest in peace.

He died peacefully. After a lunch with his whole family, he rested only not to wake up. He died of 'high blood '

He was a typical man of the village. We grew up knowing him as a counselor at the primary school.

Thanks Dalton1 and Konds. The Gambia is a small country. I too know many people from Sintet. I have sch mates from the Mandinkas, Jolas and of course the fulas. I am in touch wit most of them. They mixed so much that they can speak each others language. I think Sintet is divided into FulaKunda(Fulas), Baako(Mandinka) and Kabomb(Jola). Yes Dalton1 you are right most if not all Fulas in Kiang especially Nioro Jattaba haave origins from Fuuta Toro or Masinah- Mali.

Konds that relaxing drink you called NJARO is TUUFAAM in Pularr.

When a visitor arrives before meal times he/she is served TUUFAAM as an appetiser. It can also be served after a hearthy lunch before ATTAYA.

Madi,

Use the word "know", not "think." Certainly with knowledge of the above, you are no stranger to the area.

In addition, you have "tamba kunda", "kakehlai", "Busohghai", "nyassikunda" etc...

Thanks, You made my day.

Handeh, mih hotih Sintet, sareh dehmohbeh/farmers.
