a while back there were some postings about land sales and dishonesty. i wrote of a piece of land i saw in youna which some cheat tried to sell us when it was not his to sell(he was not the al-kalo's son as he claimed). i may be a toubab but my wife is not!. that did not bother him. now i find out that the guy who put us in contact with him, a guy called ousman from the sos orphanage who works for Mr Gibba there, sold my brother in law ( a gambian) some land in youna right next door to his own house. he has now resold this land to someone else and never asked permission from my brother in law to do so. he has refunded him half of the money and no more.
what is going on with gambia these days. is there no honesty among thieves even? doing foreigners is probably a world--over past-time, but diddling your own brothers and sisters is more than low.
there does not seem to be any way of buying land without getting stitched up, other than by an estate agent.
anyway, this sunday's lesson, is be careful out there- especially when it comes to land issues. some very naughty people out there. if anyone sees ousman, tell him he's going to mle two to spend some time with that dodgy pastor breaking up rocks.

Thanks lurker for reminding me of this.I swing between wanting to buy then changing my mind-
I got ripped off for 2,500 pounds once- The guy who was "bought" the land for me didn`t buy it afterall. He gave me a false certificate of ownership I have rented ever since.

i agree i am still interested in buying land in gambia but the "middle man" is con a merchant. and also the price is what they want to charge. can someone advise how much land would be on the senegal/gambia/mail border, if you follwo the costal road right to the border i visited there and thought it should be cheap but it is not. price is what they want it to be. |

I would advise all of you on the forum to try to get in touch with seriou´s sellers. The Government has land for sale with correct pappers. Going through a third person can creat problems because even born Gambians are being fooled by land sellers. |

These stories really scary. I want to buy a small land to build a vacation home for me and my-mother-in-law, but I am really concerned. Even, relatives of my wife try to con you. Noone to trust. Isn't there a government agency where you verify the ownership/heritance etc?

diaspora! Too many Chiefs and Very Few Indians.
Halifa Salah: PDOIS is however realistic. It is fully aware that the Gambian voters are yet to reach a level of political consciousness that they rely on to vote on the basis of Principles, policies and programmes and practices. |

Jambo, As experience has shown , the Social security depertment are selling lands. It is easier to accure by them because they do not sell to people who have appeard on a titleded in the Gambia. The policy is one man one ded. Even government allocations are there. One can contact the Islamic Bank because they too are selling lands by the costal road not far from the airport. Government allocations could be difficult because if you do not develop it withn a number of years it is taken back. This is what I can advise. Buying from other people can be a cirkus because there is a lot of land fraud in the Gambia. I would even have to ask for the lease documents or any paper from the authorities that the person owns the land or has a right to sell it. Then go to the lands office to make sure it is not leased by anyone. There are many mistakes done by people because they trust their friends or inlaws too much. I have a project right now, but I save money and go home do what I have to do then return. |
