Pa Jamboye & Nyampi
Thursday’s humor.

The gele-gele van was loaded with 36 passengers from Banjul to Tabokoto. The old man, opportune to sit in the front seat next to the driver (Samba Nyampi) was just fine at the start of the journey for that is a desired seat; truly comfortable. Samba Nyampi who worked on a weed-joint before getting on the wheels of the mighty gele-gele he often fondly called “Express” was just accelerating maximizing that leg on that gas pedal, to the extent touching the car floor. Not only was he over-speeding but was slumbering slightly with his eyes blinking spontaneously, staying longer in the closures than in the opens just like the elderly Chinese while in laughter. It is certain Samba has offended the old man.
The elderly Pa Jamboye fearfully looked at Samba Nyampi and stared at the passengers behind him and uttered thus:
“I have seen my grandchildren in real life. Those of you behind are left with that task.”
There wasn’t any response from the passengers or the driver. It is either they didn’t hear the old man or were afraid to be termed ungrateful to a driver rushing them home to get to their families at a time when cars were in scarcity.
The elderly Pa Jamboye in defense of his life lifted that right hand to the heights and with speed, dropping that bomb stone on the cheek of Nyampi. He successfully did the job, and Nyampi managed to fight with the steering wheel and finally succeeded in getting a sideway parking and fainted stiffly. The old man has alighted safe to work 10 more miles to reach home. From that point on, it becomes a taboo for him to board a gle-gle, and would often say “Lawol Jam woddah tah [In Pular to mean any journey that gets you home safe is never long.]”
Morals: Was this elder wrong? Drive safe, and never drive while in the influence of any brain stimulant. Two things are certain; One, the elderly man will never enjoy the comfort of a car. Two, the driver is unlikely to repeat that street flying. For a fact, better a fainting driver than a somersaulted gee-gele to claim that number of lives. This elderly guy is a hero.

"There is no god but Allah (SWT); and Muhammad (SAW)is His last messenger." shahadah. Fear & Worship Allah (SWT) Alone! (:
