uncle jambo ,you need a little lesson in gambian tradition fatou is a common name accross tribal line. you may be right that mandinkas like using the full name fatoumata or bintou, and fulas binta .

Congratulations on the birth of your healthy baby-girl! Lovely name - isn't Fatou short for Fatima?

yeah anna , may be another localise version .instead of fatima which is more arabic in sound ,the gambian choose fatou or fatoumata to add a bit of local dialet.

My Gambian man's daughter (only child, so obviously the eldest daughter) was called Fatima by him (if he would have had a son, he would have called him Lamin - the traditional names for firstborn children), then he called her Fatou. Now he calls her Effo (FO)! Isn't that a shame. Turk, don't do that! Fatou is just nice!!

Thanks meme, I am hoping to have a lots of love and happiness in my life. Hoping, you elders leave us better future.

Thanks uncle Jambo. Thanks Uncle Santanfara. We are not sure if fula. But when my parents named me, they wanted Fatou as representing Gambian culture. Also, my eldest hunt from my mother side name is Fatoumata. My daddy liked short form Fatou.

Thanks anna for good wishes. As uncle santafara mentioned Fatou may be originated from arabic Fatima vice versa. One another reason they named me fatou, because, my grandmother name was Fatima (my father side), also, my hunt (my father's sister middle name is Fatima.

Jasmine, is coming from same hunt, my father's sister. Her name is Fatima Yasemine, so my name is Fatou Jasemine (English version. Jasemine is also a flower name.

Anna, my parents called me Yasemin and I liked it. But all my gambian sisters and brothers can call me Fatou as well

Thanks mbay, it is nice to be both gambian and turkish. Thanks babylon for the wishes. Not only I want to be healthy, strong
and have a wonderful life, I also want to have positive impact on my Gambian and Turkish brothers and sisters.
