does anyone know if there is a department in gambia that helps women set up a co-operative if any is interested in helping set up this kind of organisation and you are based in UK follow this link http://www.dfid.gov.uk/aboutdfid/dfidwork/cooperatives.asp.
I WOULD BE INTERESTED IN DEVELOPING A WOMENS CO-OP. I AM ALREADY DEVELOPING A BUSINESS FOR WOMEN- I WORK VOLUNTARY AT A RECYCLING PLACE IN THE UK, - WE SORT OUT RECYLED CLOTHES TO SEND TO THE GAMBIA- OUR FIRST SHIPMENT WENT IN MARCH.THERE HAS BEEN A BANK ACCOUNT OPENEND AND MONEY PUT ASIDE FOR THE LONG TERM DEVELOPMENT OF THE PROJECT.
1 WOMAN WAS BEEN SET UP IN BUSINESS FOR THREE MONTHS, (ALL THE CLOTHES SOLD OUT VERY QUICKLY) WITH OTHER WOMEN EMPLOYED TEMPORARILY TO IRON THE GOODS WHEN THEY ARRIVED. I AM HOPING TO SENT THE NEXT SHIPMENT OUT IN DECEMBER
Gambians for Self Employment (GAMSEM) has established some women co-operatives both in the Kombo and Upper River. Its an NGO started by Gambians from Sweden and led by Ousman Manjang. I don't have any address for you but they have their office somewhere in Serrekunda.
