The Groundnut harvest from The Gambia has been rejected on the world markets so an on line Gambian newspaper has revieled on all africa.com.If this is true, its a very serious blow to the Gambian main export.Apart from being a main export if the reports are correct that the groundnut harvest can cause damage to health, bearing in mind that the groundnut is a staple food of Gambians, what is going to happen? Rice is getting more and more expensive. Is there any solution?

My brother in law is a peanut trader in holland.

Many years ago he visited Gambia and he said to me that the quality was poor and the residual chemicals in peanuts was very high.

He buys nuts all over the world and seems to prefer south america and china.

He is not interested in the social arguments. He is a business man purely interested in the quality and the price. From that comes his bottom line.

In Gambia people need to be very careful what they ut onto the land because evetually that feeds down into the soil that peanuts are grown in.
