one of my friends just returned from Gambia brusubi a week ago. Just after she came back she fell ill with flu like symptoms. She had diarea, vomitting, high fever and pain in the head. Now the desease is rapidly progressing and she is paralysed from the belly button till the toes. they checked her on malaria but the test was negative, doctors think she has some kind of virus infection, but a treatment with Zovirax doesnt bring any change. Doctors in Holland have no idea what causes this symptoms is there anyone here with medical experience or any one who suffered the same in Gambia and can give some usefull information, please reply at roger.bintou@hetnet.nl thank you very much roger

Did the person have all the innoculations and take the malaria tablets? Have they seen a doctor since they have returned?
When they were in Gambia did they stay at coast or go up country? Did they do any thing unusual? |

I think she /he should be hospitalised until you fnd a cause. Hospitals are best at infection control.
Please keep us posted and lets hope it is nothing too serious.

Roger, I would suggest you ask them to check her for Meningitis. |

This is sad news indeed. I pray that your friend finds a treatment to her illness soon. |

I really hope that your friend recovers soon, Roger. There could be many explanations to this illness and it may not be connected to her trip the Gambia. Im a nurse and we see many patients come in with similar symtoms and the Doctors can only put the illness down to a virus. The good news is that most of these patients recover in time, i hope that your friend is one of them and gets better very soon. I will email you. |
