On BBC 1 tonight there is a travel log type of programme when Victoria Wood is in Ghana talking about the slave trade. It might be of interest, though her style is rather flipant!
I only caught the last of Victoria's visit to Ghana when she interviewed the soccer team. However I watched it in time for Jamaica with her trip to the Maroons and interview with legendry Freddie McGregor. Jamaica was beautiful. I think the way Victoria potrayed Jamaica's history was positiveg iving a balanced perspective on slavery with a mild dose of her quaint sense of humour. It's kind of strange seeing victoria without her piano not to mention sharing her puns.
On the other hand she seemed to dismiss Ghana as a more sombre experience mainly due to what appeared to be the humid weather. Ghana is a beautiful country with lovely people the majority of whom have not yet been exposed to mass tourism as has Gambia. There is a sense of more freedom of movement and expression in Ghana for those visiting the country. It has become the second country of choice for Rastas to emigrate to. I love it,beautiful unspoilt beaches ,very hot food, friendly people. Some one else should have presented that TV programme.
