Thanks for that. Lily, that is the same page I have printed off to think about. It sounds very interesting and would give me the opportunity to live in Gambia for a while.
Hey Bev - would your school give you leave of absence? A lot of schools/colleges have provisions for people wanting to do VSO. Might be good to know you had a job to come home to (if you still wanted to - come home that is!).
You will always find UK-VSO workers staying long term at Safari Gardens, Fajara. Also a meeting point with various Gambian & UK Managers.
The world would be a poorer place if it was peopled by children whose parents risked nothing in the cause of social justice, for fear of personal loss. (Joe Slovo - African revolutionary)
I have just filled in the online application form. I wonder if I will be considered suitable? 2 years in Gambia teaching and supporting teachers. What a wonderful opportunity.
Bev, wish you goodluck. You will definitely enjoy it. When i return home shortly i will definitely fish you out. I have worked before wit VSO volunteers especially those that were in education. The ones i knew left impressive legacies in all the communities they have served. I hope you too join that list.
