What is news?
News is any information in circulation.

When do journalists have to notify the public?
As soon as it is in rife, after an authentication.

Otherwise it becomes 'stale' news.

Lets agree folks, dealing with news reportage is one of the hardest. of course 'credibility', 'reliability' and 'truthfulness' is vital part of news reportage. Lets also agree, it is hard to satisfy people, especially if those concerned already perceive you wrong.

Personally, i don't doubt that they guy might have been 'fired' and reinstated. such is common now. If i wanted to authenticate the facts, it takes me just a phone card to get a summation of the matter. I can predict that Mam sait cannot escape the elecric broom, just time. Probably, just the tip of the broom touched him, and my friend Pa's reporters notified him. There are times when i honestly disagreed with Pa, once typical case was the way that Mammy Minteh's case was handled during her dilivery at a hospital, but i believe the guy is reporting the news most of the time.

We cannot isolate Pa , we need to engage him. He is not an enermy to any of us. The enermy is the one being exposed-Jammeh and retarded cronies.

Of late, i chose to stay off topics about Pa Mbye, cos then it looks like i am taking part for him in this forum, which is not my intention.

But "Storm in a tea cup". Engage the one that means good, and be harsh at the enermy.

Good night everyone.

Folks,

Pa is keeping his strings tight. Could it be that the reported news is true? Also, it is reported on the "echo." It looks like it follows a pattern now.

State House Gets New Director Of Press Ebrima JT Kujabi

"Daily Observer Board Discusses Dismissed Editor Mam Sait Ceesay's Case-Information Minister Gaye says there are moves to resolve the problem but fail to say what crime Ceesay must have committed."

By Our State House Correspondent Landing Badjie

A new Director of Press has been named at the State House. He is Ebrima JT Kujabi widley known as JT Brown. Ebrima J.T. Brown Kujabi has been appointed the Director of Press at the Office of the President with immediate effect. Mr Kujabi replaces Sheikh Omar Faye who is now the SoS for Youth and Sports. Prior to JT'S appointment, Mam Sait Ceesay was hired to act as Director of Press. Ceesay had his Services terminated this past Monday, highly placed state house sources revealed.

Until his appointment, Mr Kujabi was a manager of ferries with the GPA. He was hitherto a State House correspondent and a news editor with the Daily Observer.

Mr.Kujabi's appointment was viewed in some quarters as a tactical move to block information leakages at the state house, which is seemingly confusing the President. Mr.Kujabi is a close relativeof the jailed former NIA Director Abdoulie Kujabi. JT was the errand boy of James Kujabi former Deputy Protocol officer at the State House. Thanks to James, JT was elevated to the position of GPA Information officer. It was during Jame's time that JT was also Observer's state house correspondent.

A strong Jammeh loyalist, JT Kujabi was often branded as an NIA agent while at the Observer. Due to his close ties with the President many staffers avoided him at the time. But JT always dismisses such claims.

With a little journalistic background, JT Kujabi has been tasked with the responsibility of heading the state house press office. JT Kujabi who is related former Gambian Ambassador John P Bojang has since assumed office.

Latest reports reaching the Freedom say the members of Board of Directors of the Daily Observer are currently in frantic behind the scenes consultations as to the fate of the papers reported sacked editor- in- chief, Mam Sait Ceesay.

Gambia's secretary of state for information, communications and Technology, Neneh Mackdouall Gaye, who is herslf the chairperson of Observer's Board was quoted as saying that the process is well underway to resolve the problem. She failed short of mentioning what kind of crime Mr Ceesay must have committed.

There is a saying that "birds of the same feather flock together." Dalton, I am not at all surprised by your meek attempts to stick up for Pa Nderry Mbye. After all, you probably owe him that, since he provided space for you to spew hate in the past. Come on now, we all have qualms about Jammeh and his administration, but destroying the lives of ordinary gambians is inexusable. Pa Nderry is the epitomy of all what is wrong with Journalism. Good judgement is never a substitute to the facts. We are all entitled to our opinions but noone is exclusively entitled to the facts. How dare you Dalton!

Everybody knows that freedom and echo have the same agenda. Never in my life have I seen editorials and news pieces solely on one man alone no matter how evil he is. There is much to report about in Gambia instead of constantly trying to destroy the lives of gambians. Some of them may be guilty by association, but we all know how things work in the Gambia. It is hard to disassociate oneself from the conduct of others, especially when it comes to close relatives.

In the case of freedom, they dont seem to discriminate on who the story should be about. If he thinks this will make him a hero, he is sadly mistaken and if you think he needs to be "engaged," you are sadly deluded. Clearly, Pa Nderry is insane.

That was really hitting the nail on the head. I totally agree with all that you said about freedom newspaper although i can´t really say what the editor´s agenda is, but there is a lot of hate directed towards Jammeh. I think he only reports about Jammeh´s flaws may be because he finds it interesting. Well, we need food on the table and roof over our heads and although things are a bit too expensive we stick with our man until he is voted out. I really believe that freedom newspaper will not hesitate in coming home then and be part of the so called free press. Some people are naturally opposition.

I am just so suprised with some comments. I dont want to speak for the paper but he is within his rights to free speech.

In any case the paper seems to have something to write about. What is expected is a response from the otherside to clarify issues. However they seem very quiet over what is published. Thats is the job of the Director of Press and Public Relations at the State House unless if he needs reminding about his responsibilities. There are two sides to a coin but unfortunately the other side is very quiet.

As to who s right or wrong is an issue beyond me. However, since some of you have taken to the morale high ground of adjucating that the Freedom Newspaper is wrong, then you must be privy to informaton in the highest circles otherwise you are not competent to say what you have said.

We must not rush to judgement.

Unfortunately, the press should not be seen as "naturally opposition". They are there to report whatever is in public domain or of public interest. If it falls on anyone so be it. Thats how i see it. It should fall on both government and opposition.

If anyone thinks they cannot take criticism, then they should not run for public office because such an office is in the public domain and therefore of public interest. Like the wollof say:

KU BOT BOOKI KHAJJ BOWLA.( If you carry a wolf on your back, expect the dogs to howl at you.) If you assume public office then expect public scrutiny.

Foroyya in its beginnings was to a large extent an opposition paper even though they never accepted such claims. A court action led to a change in its registration some years ago. The biggest problem is access to information in the country. Foroyya struggled a lot with interviews and many of their writers were almost full time "employees" at the Naional Archives doing research.

Perhaps the government opening up a little will reduce rumours. Press conferences are now almost unheard of in the Gambia. Perhaps, the current situation will change if press briefings are more often. If they dont provide it, society will create news.Sometimes by spinning news, forces authorities to explain or provide the "correct" information. Its a journalistic strategy used all over the world especially the tabloids.

Guys

Hope this puts it to rest. Even the Observer is now reporting it. I just saw this and hope you accept that Freedom is vindicated. Infact even the Echo reported it.

Case closed.

THERE IS NO SMOKE WITHOUT FIRE. Like i said before, people are dismissed in the evening and reinstated the next morning before the whole nation knows about it. There are times when a dismissed person is reinstated the next morning without rescinding the other appointment leading to two people showing up in the morning.
