The Gambia government have ordered the expulsion of the top U.N. official in the country after she criticised assertions by President Yahya Jammeh that he was curing AIDS patients with herbs. Fadzai Gwaradzimba, a Zimbabwean national who is the resident coordinator of U.N. operations in the tiny West African state, has been given 48 hours to leave the country.

Nguru,
I hope the UN does something about this. The whole world is not convinced by the Aids cure. Only some Gambians are. These people I doubt if they have any medical training or knowledge.

The Gambian government has the right to deport.

Englishman Jeff Holden, a lecturer in African History (I downed many a beer with him) at the University of Ghana, Legon (which Musa Bala Gaye attended) was deported by the Kofi Busia government, for saying that the money of the peasants and workers was not being used in their best interests.

A deportation order was given for Patrick Wilmot of Africa and Jamaica, because he said that to have a real dialogue with South Africa, about Apartheid, the sleeping giant of Africa, Nigeria had best dance mathematical rhythms and acquire nuclear capability. He said this in 1981.

When president Jammeh says that he can or has cured aids, I take him to mean that he has cured those who were accurately diagnosed as HIV-positive and were dying of aids and who are now accurately diagnosed as HIV- negative.

For the unbelieving Thomesses , there is no more mystery to the matter than this.

However, everyone has a right to criticise the president's claim that he can cure aids and since it is neither a criminal offence, nor a threat to state security, why should there be any drastic punishments for disbelieving in his healing powers?

All that is asked of him is that he brings his proof.

If he had ( astagfirullah) claimed that he was Jesus, or a prophet, then his head would have become halal to many; but to ask for assistance from God and God-given herbs is certainly no crime and therefore incredulity, no matter how sceptically expressed, ought not be a criminal liability.

What can the UN do? Nothing, Zilch. The organization is toothless. I comletely agree with Cornelius.

International news that Fadzai Gwaradzimba is to be expelled from The Gambia for voicing an opinion (authorised by U.N.) will show to the world that there is 'NO FREEDOM OF SPEECH IN THE GAMBIA' Well done Fadzai!

The world would be a poorer place if it was peopled by children whose parents risked nothing in the cause of social justice, for fear of personal loss. (Joe Slovo - African revolutionary)

Dalton, the UN may not do zilch but the world is now aware of the situation in the Gambia. Be prepared for sanctions in the coming years and pressure for this regime to change it’s ways.
Well said Sab! The world has now taken notice and this aids charade may inadvertently be positive for those of us who yearn for freedom and change.

Justice must be served as impunity brings more repression and corruption!

If you are waiting for the west to bring freedom and change you will be waiting for ever.
