I was very surprised to see in the reporting about HIV cures, that the patients are NAMED! DOn't patients have the right to privacy?
The health things previously reported by Lamin DIbba are now reported by DO. Who is DO???

DO is Daily Observer (no name for the journalist - which is the best way to publish in da Gambia)
Privacy ???? in da Gambia Bev. If you have the chance visit the RVTH and privacy will not be important anymore. You'll be happy to leave it alive. |

Privacy means keeping something private. Very simple! If you go to a doctor then the results of any discusion and tests should remain confidential.Your HIV status should only be disclosed to people you choose to disclose it to.
Sorry I was so thick about DO!!!!! Perhaps the President is writing the paper himself these days?! |

February 14th has been Valentine's Day and at this very sensitive time Gambiebev should try her utmost to refrain from holding the president of the Gambia to any kind of ridicule otherwise there is a very real possibility that you may become a persona non grata. Here is what the most educated person from Sierra Leone (has a couple of PhDs) has to say about the president of the Gambia (personal communication, received today):
”I was one of the staunchest critics of Jammeh when he took power by force. But I have been quite impressed by what he has done for his country and people in addition to his pro-Pan-Afrikan medicine for Pan-Afrikan problems stance."
The person in question (author of the above statement) is:

I agree the President may have doen some goods things for his people and country. BUT there is a separate issue of human rights and freedom of speech. He has alot of questions to answer on these issues. People are frightened to speak the truth. |

Jambo, I think it is better for us to move ahead instead of hanging us to this topic. The international Aids wokers will deal with this issue.Otherwise the medical men will find some solution to Gambias problem. We debating on the bantaba has no effect in that we cannot contact these patients for further testing. Can anybody of us do that? I have a channel but it is only in Sweden we can do the test. As these people are not here I as for one cannot do anything. I have said what I knew about this matter. As Max said, If the people do not listen, leave them ,events will teach them. The other thing can be to advice the said patients(if you have close trust relations)to contact MRC for viral load test. This I say because in Sweden we who support and give social and moral care for the africans living with HIV has a document of silence to sign. IE. One is liable answer to court if you give out the name of an hiv-possitive person. There is both the UN convention and Genive protecting them. They are the only people to say they are Hiv-possitive. |
