I read today that a Gambian national is held by the British police in connection with a (so - called) terrorist plot to execute a British muslim soldier.

I don't know how true this report is.

But I am good friends with a Gambian family who have a son in the British army. He serves with good intentions and supports his (very extended) family on his wages.

I make no comment or judgements (other that i think all killing is wrong); but what do others think about this (possibly confusing) state of affairs?

A certain Basiru Gassama has been named as part of the Birmingham terror raid. That name sounds quite much Gambian but the report did not specify.

Terrorism of any nature or of any kind, be it inciting or engaging in it should be discouraged from all works of life.It would be rather unfortunate if one of our brother Gambian could alledgedly invole with groups that are unGodly in every form.I can't understand why terrorism is linked with this noble religion or why people who claim to be muslims would engage in terrorist acts. Its unIslamic and should be denounced by all peace loving.

If a Gambian is involved and that fact is publicised it could have an impact on tourism from UK to Gambia. People are fickle and if they have no commitment to Gambia they will move on to somewhere else for their holidays if they worry about safety.
I sincerely hope the guy isnt Gambian. Why would a Gambian want to be involved in such a plot? Gambians I have met are all modest, tolerant Muslims. We have nothing to fear from that.

Bev,
I hop it does not. Gambia and Britain have no problems of these sort. Otherwise, the guy lives in Britain and have been away from home. He just happened to know the wrong types.

It is the same concern around the world that young muslims can be indoctrinated and lure into such evil acts. Young people are extremely vulnerable to such extremism. These evil so called Muslims are always looking for fragile and unstable youths to convince into doing something against human decency.

I hope and pray that our young men and women will have the guidance and be protected from such evil. This is all the more reason we need to reach out to our brothers and sisters and educate each other. We know we have some very young people out in the world without parental guide. Such youths could fall prey to evil doers. I hope the story is not true

Please lets continue to look out for each other and offer advices where necessary...
God bless

Baldeh,
