Halifa Sallah said “The future of the Gambia rests in the hands of its conscious, respectable and dignified citizenry who can never be bought or intimidated but sees every human being on this earth as their equal. This Gambia is emerging. Sooner or later the people will indeed take charge to build a society of liberty and prosperity."

My question is (who are these people?)

When great nations are faced with challenges its people respond with creativity. Today the decline of democracy, which will eventually lead to a one party system in our beloved country, is a unique challenge that demands immediate attention from every progressive Gambian.
For over a decade, far too many have ignored the warnings about the dangerous political path that Gambia is taking. Many have turn to the internet to voice their opinions and frustrations but it is apparent that sitting in our comfy bedrooms in the Diaspora and writing about The Gambian is futile. The energy and resources we use to criticize the current Government can and should be put better use.

The solution to the current political decay in The Gambia cannot be solved by Gambians at home. The Opposition parties are divided, weak, and under funded. They have proven time and time again that they cannot fight the battle by themselves. It is my belief that a progressive and united Diaspora is our last hope.

What we in the Diaspora should do is first and foremost unite and forge a common voice. A progressive united Gambian Diaspora that is willing to take bigger steak in the political process can provide an alternative for Gambians. Today Gambians at home do not have an alternative to A.P.R.C.

Now more than ever The Gambia needs a Diaspora that takes an active roll in its political process. Politicians come and go, but The Gambia will be there for all, this is why we need a functioning and mature democratic system. Establishing a democratic a system that ensures a level playing field for all Gambians will be the task for the new breed of politicians.

Many have called for a new breed of politicians; I have yet to see where this new breed is coming from. I am praying for the day that The Gambian Diaspora will realize its potential and ability to make a nationwide difference.

Fellow countrymen it is high time for action, communication and most importantly a progressive mentality. Gambians have to learn to place the interest of the Gambia first.

If anyone has ideas about the way forward, I can be reached at ebrima114@hotmail.com

Santafara, I beg to differ. Politics can work. If the opposition had placed the national interest first and forged a common voice the recent election results would have been different.
Capturing half of the seats in parliament would have abated the unchecked power that the APR currently enjoys.
I believe the question is when will like minded progressive Gambians in the Diaspora find way to unite. It seems many Gambians in the Diaspora see a need for a better system so what are we going to do about it?

Ebou, are you prepared to accept and support a party led allaince since that is the only legally possible one we can think of if other party identities are to be preserved?

I do not oppose unity but I oppose dumb union.

Progressive Gambians should be willing to accept any method that is going to bring us fair and sustainable representation. Viable options have been presented and continue to be visible for any Gambian who wants to put individual interest aside and work towards a common destiny. I believe the seeds of democracy have already been planted but they need to be nurtured in a healthy and unifying manner. We cannot afford to make another mistake...

What Gambians cannot and must not settle down for is maintaining the status quo. We don't necessarily need a personnel change. We need an overhaul system change with different visions and clear cut agendas. It is not and should never be about this group or that group. It should be about addressing Gambia's problems without regard to race, gender, political affiliation or history. This is the way forward and until we are ready to take the full responsibility without name tags, we are heading the wrong way...

Let us discuss with open minds and doors to embrace all stake holders which is the Gambian people. Forward with Gambia...

Konds-

I am sure you followed up the story of Moses in the Quran, where it is believed that the Gainakos/Fulas originated from. Gainakos can only help others to rule, but cannot be leaders. Therefore, we will all vote you in. I will be your FJC. (laugh!!) Make sure you appoint me the shepherd of the herd.

This is at a time when FJC will peep in every forum, seconds after seconds. I wish i could graph her footsteps------

Thank you for lines.
