You got it right KayJatta. Many of these people are sick from depression and lack of hope. If only they can get some of the basic things they need like being able to provide for their multi families, then they will not make a trip to the hospital much more think about Jammeh's ill cures.
You know though, there are many historic perspectives to what Jammeh is doing. Thinking about the game Jammeh is playing, I could see some historic parallel to his menace. Common sense tells us that Yahya Jammeh is playing a Psychological game with the Gambian people to dominate their minds in thinking that he is a supernatural human being.
In a society like ours where there is still strong belief about witch craft, idol worshipping, and magic spells it is easy to mentally change the way that society thinks and reason. By injecting that supernatural mentality in people, they will be affraid to challenge this man in any way say perform.
Many will belief that if you confront Jammeh or even speak negative about him anywhere, he has the ability to hear and change himself into another person to get you. Unfortunately, this is a very powerful way of dominating a society.
Do anyone remember when Jawara the former President was believed to be extra ordinary? Do you remember the widely spread message that Jawara magically walked away when his Helicopter crash at Brikama Bah in the late 80s when many passengers died as a result of that crash? In fact until the time he was booted out of office unceremoniously, he was regarded as someone with supernatural powers.
Another example, is our next door neighbor Senegal, where former President Abdou Joof was believed to be collecting votes from the devils to win elections. So there is a deep history to this psychological game that these leaders use to dominate a society. By doing so people are incline to vote for these people even if they disagree with them.
The conclusion is that we have seen these games played by African leaders over and over again. It is one of the reasons they work hard to keep our people ignorant and uneducated so they will believe whatever they are told. Everyone of these leaders has horribly failed and Yahya Jammeh will not be any different.
Only education and enlightenment can free our people from such mental slavery and babaric domination. The saddest part is that ill educated people like the daily observer editors and other selfish people use such opportunities for their selfish agenda.

I take the whole issue with a pinch of salt. Yahya should talk about things he knows and stay away from things he do not know. His Use of the Quran is doubtful. Since when has he become a HAFIZ of the Quran? Jammeh should know his limits. If he had said that he knows how to mend Fractures probably i would believe. This is because the Jammeh clan of Kanilai are known for that art. There is traditional medicine and many have registered success in countries like Burkina Faso Senegal etc. If the medecines are herbal they must be tested in labs and certified ok. When okayed these medicines must have the right dosage and prepared in hygienic conditions.
Jammeh should learn to be modest. Even where he has knowledge in traditional medicne it must be done with humility. Not blowing ur trumpet or relating things that you don't have a clue. |

Jawara's bald head was the biggest attraction. In the Gambia, a bald head is a sign of wisdom and such people are really feared. Its just a chemical imbalance which causes hair loss and nothing more.
One of my lecturers who had a Phd degree and also a bald head used to make fun of himself by stating that PHD means Poor Hair Distribution.
There were many stories flying around in the first week of the coup trying to mystify the man as having magical powers. But that is nothing new. Our society is based on cult and personality to instill fear which gave rise to traditional mask, masqurade dances associated with spirits.
You only know the truth after being elected and elevated to high positions of trust but then, because of the priviledges associated with such functions, no one wants to loose it with all the priviledges attached. The cycle just continues. |

Baldeh:
The difference between Jammeh's occasional delusions cum tirades and what you said about other leaders in our sub-region is that Jammeh truly believes he possesses such powers. No pun intended. In his schizophrenic delusionary bouts, he acts as if he is another godsent. Unfortunately, he succeeds in psyching the masses. You know he sold concoctions in a bottle we talked about it and got tired of the story, now this. Next time he'll be eating human flesh (if he hasn't already done so) or pull his pants at the Independence stadium. Now, that is when it will dawn on everyone that we have an unhinged maniac for a president. In our society unfortunately, it takes an unfortunate incident to realize someone is cuckoo....Jammeh's case is no different. Mark that.

May Allah forbid, Let us wish good health for our noble leader but not to wish him to go insane. It is stated in the Quran that "you should be kind to even your foe". Jammeh helped thousands of Gambian student through Jammeh Foundation for Peace. Jammeh has clear vision for the Gambia and Gambians. Jammeh is very merciful if not many will not see the sun by now, they will be at Shareton Hotel (mile II). Many did wrong and turned back to H E for forgiveness, and President Jammeh does as always. Baba Jawara is also granted Amnesty and he is enjoying life at the coast. |

The cure will always "work" because no one would say otherwise. Its like the story of the emperor's clothes. Unfortunately the young boy who realised that the Emperor was naked is absent on the Gambian political landscape. |
