I am being a bit sceptical about what Jammeh is up to. I have a mix feeling about the whole thing. One thing that is certain is that, jammeh is doing this for a purpose. I sometimes feel that he maybe trying to trick those HIV patients to expose themselves as this is a major problem in the Gambia.
Citing a recent story on one of the online papers where a senior government official was being refused entry from a foreign country due to testing HIV positive, one could see a link between the two. Though this is just my personal opinion. Because in Jammeh's conditions for treating HIV, he said the treatment has to be in public, which to me appear a bit too unprofessional for a guy like Jammeh, if there is no catch i mean.
Anyway, lets wait and see.

Well there are Gambians who came forward that they had AIDS. I did attend many such workshops on AIDS especially with SANTA YALLA. So coming forward is not new for some of us who worked with AIDS patients. |

I am not sure about tricking AIDS patients to come out of hiding is his motivation here. Remember that there is a ward at RVTH called HARR YALLA or SANTA YALLA (i may be wrong here) where AIDS patients reside. So there is a poll of patience that need help. That is where I am presuming he is gonna start his miracle healing.

HARR YALLA is a nick name for a ward in the Hospital mostly with patients who have life threatening conditions. Its more like a Hospice Unit where the terminally ill are housed.
SANTA YALLA on the other hand is an NGO working with AIDS patients with offices in Faji Kunda i believe.
This story roused my enthusiasm because I was an AIDS Activist before. I saw many helpless people die of the disease so this story pleases me all the more that their sufferings will end next week wednesday January 24, 2007.
My bigest problem is they might take an "AIDS Patient" who is infact negative and then re-test him only to proof what they already knew to be a hoax.
Like the mandinka say: NGABA KUDEWO, NI MA TOTU JEH, IKO KA KUMA LEH. ( If try to reach or take that which is not yours, expect some difficulties).
Perhaps, this is the beginning of the end of the wool that has been placed over our eyes for years. |

The reason why he cannot do it for himself is a long addressed issue the marabouts have found an answer to. In Mandinka they call it: MURO BUKAA AFANG LII( A knife cannot sharpen it self) or in wollof: SAABU DU FOT BOPAM( a bar of soap cannot wash itself). All justifying why they as marabouts also seek help. Unfortunately its a one way traffic. |

His making himself available for employment at the "world class hospital in Bijilo" when the Gambian electorate see's the light! Quote taken from the 'Laying the foundation stone at Bijilo'
quote: Speaking at the ceremony, the Gambian leader, President Yahya Jammeh, "When Dr Lee first told me that he wanted to build a first class hospital, I thought he was joking. But when he came back and said to me that he wanted to lay the foundation stone for the hospital on 3rd December, I then believed that I was not the only action-man ----- Dr Lee is another action-man".
Sadly,I suspect he truly believes himself as Dr.Action-man! |
The world would be a poorer place if it was peopled by children whose parents risked nothing in the cause of social justice, for fear of personal loss. (Joe Slovo - African revolutionary) |
