Baldeh, You are properly on track. Only a small number of people in this world are not sectional, tribal, racial, and all the i-a-l words. Only few people in this world recognise the HUMAN FAMILY. It takes a long journey in the progress of human society before that solid wall falls like the wall that divided East and Western Germany. This is the slowest moving aspect of civilised society.
Down to the case of Gambia, UNFAIRNESS is the ugly side of it. People are not fair neither to Jammeh, nor to themselves. Jammeh is aware that it is not him that Gambians deserve at this very crucial stage when we need salvation. He insists because of selfishness in its crooked shape. If Jammeh dies in this position, Gambians will mourn more over his failure than his death. He is aware of this. He is not seeing the country. He is seeing his self gains. It is all up to Gambians to dig themselves out of the ditch. |

If you tear apart the HEART of opposition in Gambia, you will see more of that SELFISHNESS and DISTRUST as their principal killer disease. They (the opposition) are not sincere to Gambian populace. This coming parliamentary election stands to be another shameful defeat and further consolidation of APRC/Jammeh illegal grip of position and foul power play. We may not all want that but it still stands THE sole truth. |

Personally, i promised not to find out the results. Its a done deal. For now we need a new breed in politics that can galvanise the country and re-energise the electrorate. Voter apathy was quite prevalent in the presidential election because there was no true uniter. Nearly 40% of the electorate did not vote.
This time atleast 45% will not vote. |

I think the opposition owe the public an explanation as to why they have not put up candidates in the FONIS. The Jola maybe the largest group here but there are certainly others such as Fula, Mandinka, Manjaks etc. I used to know a certain Lebage Bojang now deceased who was once a Pdois candidate in the fonis. Dbaldeh made an important comparison here. The baddibus used to be an Ncp stronghold and PPP candidates were just filled for formality. The opposition may have read this and decided to safe much required resources for areas they hope to win, if thats their thinking then they are on course.
Tribalism as Dbaldeh also intimated here is cancerous in Africa not only the Gambia. One of the hallmarks is wen you meet a Gambian and ask him/her what are you, the instant reply would be , AM FULA, MANDINKA, ETC. In countries where the problem is less serious like Senegal it is not uncommon to get a reply to that question as , AM SENEGALESE, before the person mentions his tribe.
Whether we acknowledge or refute it tribalism is alive and kicking. jammeh is not the only perpetrator as others would want us to believe. There is a Fula Journalist cum social commentator resident abroad who is so tribalist that attimes in my quiet moments i feel ashmed to be a Fula, this is the same guy who wants us to forget the atrocities former vice chairman of the AFPRC Cpt Sana Sabally(a Fula) committed as a council member before being tamed and hail sanna as a national hero. So it is a problem that cuts across the entire national fabric. An encounter I had with a fellow Gambian , who is Mandinka wen we were both living abroad during the coup was his disappointment to realise that the coup leader in the Gambia is a Jammeh Jola and not a Mandinka Jammeh. His resentment of the new leader started immediately further aggravated by messages his family were sending him, one such message read, ITS THE JOLAS AND FULAS gov't. I repeat its not only Jammeh who is tribalist a host many are even intellectuals. If NADD could dis-integrate on tribal lines who else is free from this despicable disease?
The solution is to educate the masses and the educated and englighten should try to change their attitudes too. |

Gambian politics has become very sectarian and tribalistic. You can only select a Fualni candidate in areas that are Fulani speaking and so is the case with Mandinka, wollof etc. If you are from a minority tribe in a constituency you will not be selected. Some people cannot understand why Shyngle Nyassi supports UDP.
Konds i would like to comment on the above highlights. Do you also know that as far back as 1977 NCP were refused to hold rallies even in sub-urban Kombo north? This is wat Ngugi would have referred to as the same Serpent's venom, only its colour is different this time around.
You want us to believe that this kind of politics based on tribal lines or sectarian is just a baby(the Aprc's)? c'mon brother man. This an old man |

We all eat the same expired rice and all scarvenge for a dalasi here and there. We are so unfortunate and Yahya Jammeh is in descriminate when his ax falls. My cousin jolas should only jubilate for so long before the clock turn on them.. an example is Addoulie Kujabi etc. Lord have Mercy on us...
Kujabi is not the only one. How about James, the many chiefs and Alkalos, manlafi etc.
That is not even important. When we go to the market, we are not charged different prices based on the party we support or tribal affiliation.
Like the mandinka say: KULU KANG SUMUNA (If you urinate on the mat, it makes the whole mat wet and no one enjoys sitting on it even the person who urinated on it.)
But we can look at Gambian history and realise that seds of tribalism were planted from 1951 to 1966. Unfortunately these seeds have grown to be trees some of which are still standing.

May be you have not read my posting well. I said that it started as far back as 1951 and was more visible up to 1966 after the failed republican referendum. Certainly 1951 is not new.
Those times were more violent when peoples homes were burnt to the ground. At least not now even though oppositions cannot stand in some regions of the country.
Are you trying to pull my leg. I dont fall for Fulani tricks. The Sarahule man knows your tricks. |

NADD owe us an explanation as to why they are not putting up candidates in the Fonis. It is one thing to not have enough resources to sponsor all candidates across the country, but another thing to set a dangerous precedence like not putting up candidates at all.
Did they mean to tell us that there are no competent opposition candidates in Foni? They should use the same system that APRC has to beat them. Penetrate their inner circles and put up candidates that will possibly divide votes among the concentrated groups in the area. Take a page from the last US midterm elections. Candidates were selected from the predominantly republican south. The results is self explanatory. You have to have smart policies to attract citizens who are not content with the ruling party. Am sure there are plenty of them in Foni.
The opposition especially people like Halifa are on record opposing one party system, well guess what, that is exactly what they are encouraging with the foni write off. Someone ought to explain to the Gambian people.
As Kon said, we need a new brand of politicians who can change the agenda and landscape in the Gambia. We need fresh ideas and strategic plans to confront the weak Aprc. This old brand has failed us terribly. They should all lose the elections so we have a fresh start. This is disgusting and indefensible in anyway. What a tragedy and shame. Opposition campaign slogan "Foni for Jammeh, the rest of Gambia for all of us" The message is clearly divisive |
