Too often has the African Union (AU) been confused with its predecessor the Organisation of African Union (OAU). The AU has peace keeping troops in Dafur and is a bout to deployed peacekeeping troops in Somalia which has been without an elected government for the past 16 years. Neighbouring Ethiopia last month went into Somalia to back up the transitional government forces against a threatened overthrow by The Islamic Courts Union. It is expected that Ethiopia will remain in Somalia until AU Troops arrive. Here are some relevant links.

1.African Union will send in troops

this Darfur situation has been lost, during the 2006 au, the main leaders of the countries involved wul dnot speak to each other. Nothing UN, neighbouring government can do, no amount of aid, peacekeepers or anything will solve this until the THIS TWO OLD AFRICAN MEN, STUPID, RICH, ARROGANT, NEGATIVE SIT AT A TABLE AND TALK. look at the history of this situation, it could have been resolved long ago.
THIS IS ABOUT AFRICANS AGAINST AFRICANS. it is not a Western fault. BUT AN AFRICAN ONE, rwanda happened, congo happened and now Darfur. this is about land ownership, BLACK AFRICANS, RELIGION AND MONEY. it has to be stopped. if it is not stopped, watch the disease spread.

The Sudanese government needs to be brought to book for ethnic cleansing and the more procastination the more the slaughter continues in Dafur. To make it worse is that UN Blue berrets have been sexually abusing women and children. Those UN are alleged to come from Bangaladesh. http://allafrica.com/stories/200701050033.htmlI think its easy to generic remarks slamming African Leaders. More African Union troops have been sent to Dafur including Gambia Troops what they need is a stronger mandate to protect civilians in and outside of camps.

It looks like that the descendants of the Black Pharoahs who ruled Egypt for 600 years are now the vicims of the war in Sudan. The Nuba people, very proud of their heritage are being wiped out right before our eyes. They are tall, dark and proud of their tribal marks on their foreheads and cheeks, which has become a trademark of their culture, will soon be history. I hope no one says in the future that they did not know about it.

However, i think African leaders will be haunted by history for not taking appropriate decision under the AU charter.

But you see, almost all of them continue to opress their citizens, and it makes it hard for anyone of them to be able to condemn the Sudanese Government about Human rights. It is like a pot calling a kettle black.

Some are busy changing their countries' constitution so that they can stay for life, loot their coffers and declare themselves Imperial Majesty, mugging the press, jailing dissident citizens and exporting refugees and poverty.

That is why Sudan can afford to take a stand it takes with ease.

You will be suprised how many countries in Africa are signing memorandum of Understandings (MOU) with the Sudanese government. Even Gambia has joined the band wagon and we hope to benefit from the sugar production through cane production in the gambia and transfer of irrigation technology through wells and bore holes.

This is no secret , it was on national TV when our government toured the production facilities(sugar) and irrigated sugar plantations.

WE NEED TO LOOK AT THE REAL CAUSES OF WAR FIRST BEFORE PASSING JUDGEMENT. THE DARFUR CRISIS IS A COMPLICATED ISSUE SO EASY ASSESMENT AND QUICK SOLUTION WILL NOT END THE CRISIS.
THE MATTER IS NOT FOR U.N TO DRAFT SANCTIONS BECAUSE IT NEVER SOLVE ANY PROBLEM. THE UNDERLINE ISSUE HERE IS O I L .
darfur has a lot of oil reserve which the powers that be are playing innocent people against each other .the final solution that may be suggested will be for darfur to be independent of main land sudan. this is the problem. there are rebbels in darfur ,about four different darfurians rebel groups each negotiating with outside powers .that is why when ever the crisis is about to be put to an end ,all of a sudden it will start again. it is easy to blame the sudanes government ,but some times african government find it hard to find easy solution to internal crisis especially when black gold is involve. all the time problems that a.u can solve are drawn to the board prisided over by racist oil hungry blood thirsty diplomat who call each other bleeder.
in the diplomatic circle some are refered to as BLEEDERS. this term means wait until maximum casualities and then champion the course. that is why u.n always wants to take over every crisis resolution .but look at the u.n humanitarian records ,you will understand what i mean. the film hotel ruwanda highlight a bit of the duplicacy. any time a region wants sepration ,it leads to war. not every person in that region of darfur supports sepration .the news coverage is mostly imcomplete. the sudanise government could have done better by deploying a large amount of forces to act as a deterant to violence. but look at the southern sudan crisis it lasted for twenty years yet after john garan died the situation resided ,problem solved
let us not be always over emotional about african issues and become blinded by the real players in international crisis.how do rebels armed themself ? do you know if you want to form a rebel movement weapon is the easiest thing to lay your hands on .most of them from european suppliers. sell to the rebels ,and then to the government.then the game begins just like how the aristocrats go bird shooting . blood sport.
a book call GOOD MUSLIM ,BAD MUSLIM EXPLAIN HOW WAR MONGERS ARE CREATED. God save the world

Cornelius Gambian Troops have been stationed in Darfur since 2004. I agree with you about the insfficient news we receive concerning what's really happening in the world. As for the airstrike on Somalia it was by no means clinical casualities are in their hundreds not just one or two individuals. Civil War is likely to break out agin in Somalia it was reported on the BBC that AK47 sells have escalated each cost $300, and the average Somalian earns $250 per year. War on Terror makes one contemplate who is really terrorising who?

1994 Somalians chased the US out of Somalia and now the US strikes Civilians with impunity. Knowing full well that Somalians have had little peace in 16 years, have recently emerged from severe floods, and are living in ruins created by civil war. Air strikes don't solve the problem it just creates further problems and as Santafara stated araments keep US and other western powers treasuries afloat. Whilst the US economy is in recession it seems that the only sector which is successful is arms the same sector, which backs the Neo Conservatives along with their propaganda machine. The American people are being hood winked as Bush deploys another 23,000 troops to Iraq one wonders how many have to comeback in body bags before the Democrats set motions to impeach the President's loony strategy in Iraq. Still out standing is the legitmacy of his presidence with those fault electoral voting machines in Florida etc.

When is the US going to see sense. Will the House of Representives and the US Congress going to allow this endless bloodletting going on to continue. Hasn't 9/11 been avenged enough! Where are the Anti-War protestors as in the case of Vietnam? It was a futile War. The Vietnamese right to self-determination won through. Saddam has been hanged, Bin Laden is still free and people in the Middle East and Africa are being murdered and maimed
for oil, arms and money.

Sister you are a real lady. i salute you. not every one venture into this territory ,but the truth most be told. instead of helping destitude somalia they are throwing bombs at them just for cheap political gain. that is why Grace Halsell's book forcing God's hand make sense. this neo-cons believe they are doing a devine job just like the nuters algaida folks. i don't see any difference between the two. bring people to court not death before the jury decides. look at saddam's hanging ,the man was suppose to be charge with many more crimes but they hang him before justice is done. why did slomodan milosovic stayed in the haig for nearly two years without any conviction, the man died on his own ,he enjoy his hotel and keep on making a mockery of the whole courth which was an expensive excise. yet he killed thousands of bosnian muslims he went scout free. how can people believe that the u.s is not taken it upon itself to intimidate muslims and any one who don't dance to there tune.God is in charge.

Somalia and the Americans..Colin Powell (then Secretary of State) stated, ‘America will have a continuing interest and presence in Central Asia of a kind that we could not have dreamed of before (Sept 11) This is just the beginning. The ultimate goal is a far wider American conquest, military and economic, which was planned during the Second World War and which, as then Vice President Cheney said, ‘may not end in our lifetimes, or until the United States has positioned itself as gatekeeper of the world’s remaining oil and gas. Cheney & Rumsfeld quoted when they were in office, “America was planning action against ‘forty to fifty countries’. Somalia, allegedly a ‘haven’ for al-Qa’ida, joined Iraq at the top of the list of potential targets.

Somalia and part of the north-western Indian Ocean are major oil and gas reserves, perhaps as large as the Caspian Sea. Where American companies have staked claims and await the imposition of a pro-Western regime.

A quote from Brigadier-General William Looney, US air force, director of the bombing in Iraq;
"They know we own their country. We dictate the way they live and talk. And that’s what great about America right now. It’s a good thing, especially when there’s a lot of oil out there we need."

We should all pray for Somalia...As nature gave them GAS and OIL.

The world would be a poorer place if it was peopled by children whose parents risked nothing in the cause of social justice, for fear of personal loss. (Joe Slovo - African revolutionary)

Is that why there has been internal squabbles in Somalia these past sixteen years?

What Sab says is understandable and I for one am not about to dispute US strategic interests.

You do not mention Sudan.

Who would you like to give Gambian oil reserves to exploit - Taiwan?

CONI. we all know your stand point. so long as the people dieing are goyam no problem. when people give more weight to wealth than human life they will have no qualm to kill and cause death distruction and displacement. the u.s empire will collapse as many as done before ,so let them continue in the mischieveous act. africa as always been a stamping ground for u.s ,and they are not going to change that now.

SANTANFARA,

Since I CANNOT SEE MYSELF TAKING UP WEAPONS AGAINST YOU, sometimes I fail to understand why people are fighting - what for? To enrich arms dealers who are looking on?

The US has also done A LOT of GOOD in this world.

At the end of the day, what will it be like in Iraq? In Somalia? in Cambodia? In Vietnam? In Iran?

If I ever find the time I will post the correspondence between Imam Khomeini (r.a.) and the Pope. It was very instructive reading - the most intriguing was the Imam's response to the Pope pleading with the Iranian regime - during Carter's presidency, to free the captives of the US Embassy in Teheran who were eventually held for all of 444 days and eventually surrendered to the Republican winner of the presidential election.
Imam Khomeini (r.a) , a true orator from the ahl-ul-Bayt school of Imam Ali alaihi salaam's balagha, said that he had always wanted to have a meaningful dialogue with a holy man such as His Holiness, His Eminence the Pope, and starts by asking a series of rhetorical questions that would have done Bishop Dom Camara proud, questions in the nature of, "Where was the Pope when the Shah was plundering the resources of the Iranian people etc?" - and perhaps Bani Sadr could have answered and where was His Holiness the Pope when the Shah of Iran was supporting and keeping solvent the Chase Manhattan Bank with much of the Iranian people's money - whilst the Iranian people were suffering? Did he plead with the Shah on behalf of the Iranian people on those occasions? Etc etc. I remember Imam Khomeini saying, with reference to sanctions, that the Iranian people were prepared to eat less meat....

WHO was a pawn in their game?

Latest news on Somalia: Somali raids miss terror suspects

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/6251077.stm

Somalia has a population of 11.3 million people.
Ethiopia has 77. 7 Million People and Addis Ababa is still the capital.
Its population is set to double by 2050:
http://www.voanews.com/english/archive/2006-03/Ethiopian-Population-Expected-To-Grow-by-More-than-100-Percent.cfm

What is disturbing is the real possibility of truth to the alleged presence of Al-Qaeda fighters there, and some of the other fears expressed here. We are Africans and interested in Africa her peoples and their history, culture and civilisations, in ETHIOPIA, Nigeria, Congo, Guinea, South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Sudan, Algeria, Uganda, Angola, Namibia, Senegal and MALI, Somalia, Sierra Leone, Liberia, the Gambia, Cameroon, Egypt, Libya, Morocco and the AU. ISRAEL, The United Kingdom, France, Turkey, Armenia, all Europe and of course North and South America, the Caribbean, India, CHINA, JAPAN, Tibet, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, SAUDI ARABIA, IRAN, IRAQ, YEMEN, SYRIA
(The Syria of History – the Baghdad of history) the Middle East, the World.
Most of what we know (not only endless hours in libraries& with teachers) is mostly common knowledge, open secrets. There’s not much to discuss or speculate by the time you’ve talked to a few people, read about half a dozen African and Middle Eastern papers, and a dozen Western papers like this one which is full of premonitions:
http://frontpagemag.com/Articles/ReadArticle.asp?ID=26370
and this:
http://www.spiegel.de/international/spiegel/0,1518,458633,00.html
from which many who are not there on the spot must have to rely for their information and sometimes the enlightenment that should shine upon us all.
For veterans there is not much to discuss but keeping abreast is a daily event and full of expectations.
Sister Omega tells us that Gambian troops are in Darfur so you see how it is to have an ex-military man at the helm of affairs in the Gambia. He responded to the call. If all the other presidents could have acted in like manner and sent proportionate troop contributions each according to his widow’s mite, well just take a look at the map of Africa, and we’ll understand that the situation would have mellowed down there by now, oil or no oil.
http://www.mapsofworld.com/images/maps_of_world_africa.gif

The Toubabs say that the Africans should send in their troops and is it the UN, EU etc that will foot the bill? The AU apparently is in no great hurry to send in their troops to Somalia.

Sometimes the Western press has been called the great whore of Babylon and not without cause as we wait for the great white ape to reincarnate and maybe lead us all back to Africa to enlightenment and emancipation and preside over all of us there.
Heaven forbid.
We’ve all got the overall picture. We know Africa and we know the West. We must not believe everything that we read in the papers without any reservation and sometimes it’s difficult for even the generals and those working in the very information gathering offices to differentiate truth from propaganda. There much to learn, not much to teach.
Kofi Annan has gone and Ban Ki-moon has come. During Mr. Annan’s period in office there were all those armchair critics who were shouting advice in his ear, from their armchairs.
Yesterday on Hardtalk I heard the former 30 year old governor of a province in Iraq explain the difference between what ought to be/ should be done and what CAN be done.
http://www.un.org/

PS: One reason why you’ll be seeing much less of me over the coming months is that I have a pile of the International Edition of the Jerusalem Post and the Jewish Chronicle covering the period July – December to go through. It’s now history isn’t it?

The Jewish Chronicle of August 18 2006 reports:
“During the four-and-a half weeks of the second Lebanon war, Israel lost 117 soldiers and 39 civilians. Another 311 wounded were admitted to hospital. Nearly 4,000 rockets fell on the North of the country, damaging 12,000 homes and burning 750,000 trees”

It is this kind of precise information that we lack when it concerns Iraq, Somalia, and Darfur, Afghanistan.

Today I understand the Gambia much better than I did a week ago having been taught by a very intelligent son of the soil who’s judgement I can count on because we have discussed for years. He has even empowered me with greater freedom.
