Kondorong and The Brotherhood (in the neuter gender)
You are right. Democratisation is a process. It is like building any material or management structure. We have inputs to inject and expect output at some stage. We don't expect it to end with us. We ourelves and all our efforts serve as inputs to those who survive us. In that regard, even Jammeh with all his mistakes count as input. Jammeh is a material we can derive lot from. His total conduct is raw material for critical analysis. We must grow beyond vexation about what Jammeh does. He only does so much and we take lessons from that and utilise the experience as input to the democratisation process. Jammeh is contributing to speeding the process by many of his actions since July 1994. On that account, we may want to thank him for speeding the wheel along the road to changes. What he can't do is to stop changes. That is his problem today. It is out of his hands. We can start it from Bantaba in cyberspace and by day break we land at Kanilai on planet earth. We are all inputs ourselves. What do you make of that Kondorong? |

You are right. We are all inputs and slowly we will get there. We have to plan beyond individuals. Jammeh will surely be history and who ever thought Jawara would rule till dooms day is now fully awake.
We must plan beyond Jammeh. Lets pplan 500 years ahead. Thats why i like Americans. They pplan 1000 years ahead. They bought Louisiana from the French and Alaska from Russia. Today Alaska is a gold mine rich in sea food, oil and natural fauna and flora.
There are many problems after Jammeh so those who think the batle will be over with Jammeh are still day dreaming. nation building is an endless process and only the detremined will enjoy labouring slowly but surely chipping the rought edges and adjustng along the way as the environment changes. Its an endless venture and one never arrives, because there is always room for improvement.
The sky is not the limit when it comes to nation building. Believing in a limit is a source of complacency and democracy works well when it is protected as it has many enemies ready to suffocate it. |
