- A two term limit to presidency,
- Give a time table for his step down within the next five years,
-Absolute freedom of the speech , press , and political assembly,
-Reduction of government wasteful spending on the previledged and
spend more on the underpreviledged,
- Appoint some opposition members in government (cabinet positions),
- Scrap the NIA and strenghten the police force,
- Move away from leftist and rogue states like Venezuela and Iran,
- Release all political detainees and any other detainee who is
pardonable,
-Actively work with the Senegalese government to resolve the problem
in Cassamance.

It is never too late . Actually it is better late than never. Time is running out . The longer he stays in power the more alienated and trapped he might become .

K_Jatta,

First of all these are great thoughts and i share all except one and that's the highlighted one. If his bread(Gambia's) bread is buttered by the free minded people like Cuba, Hugo Chaves, Iran, Taiwan etc so be it. No one should choose our friends for us. Any association should be based on trust and mutual respect. I will never tow the lines of the imperialists even if i were to feed on grass. Sekou Toure is reported to have once said that he would rather live in dignified poverty than live in enslaved affluence. In the eyes of the imperialists Sekou like Nkrumah was a dictator which was one of the biggest lies in contemporary history.Sekou's Guinea is 10times better than the Guinea of today in a so-called democracy.

Madiba , your thoughts are very much appreciated. You are right that no one should choose Gambia's friends for her. However , Gambia's relatioship with Taiwan and to some extent Cuba appears to be more progressive economically than that of Venezuela and Iran. If you had listened to the politically charged anti-Western rhetoric by Chavez and Ahmadenejad during their visit to Banjul , and Jammeh's recent islamist statements in Tehran you would see that both venezuela and Iran have bigger global agenda that Gambia would not want to be dragged into. This could be a cause for concern to many moderate Gambians both at home and abroad.
Iran particularly is at the center of the ongoing war on terror and the crisis over nuclear weapons. I am sure the Gambia may not benefit much by being caught up in Iran's ploy to secure allies in the third world for it's unscrupulous dealings.

K_Jatta,

I agree with you that our relations with Iran and Venezuela ought to be purely on moderate and civil basis. We(The Gambia) should be concerned with the socio-economic development of our beloved country rather than being used as a pawn by those powers in the arms race. So whoever is at the helm of affairs in Banjul should know that we Gambians love peace and had the culture for many years. Appropriate technology transfer from any friendly nation is welcomed without strings attached.

Well bring us all the developments in the west in twelve years and we will support you. You see, this is not about not seeing better things but it is about being greatful with what you are afforded with today since no body has ever given you that. And yes, me and my family and many other families are having it better today and until i see some one that will give better than this, i will stick to this one i have.
Breadman, I am saddened to read your comment above. However, I can understand your plight and sense of accomplishment in Jammeh. In the kindom of blind men, the one eye man is the king. If you don't know to live any better than what Jawara and Jammeh have to offer, you have all the right to be happy with what you get.

The fact of the matter is you and your family can have better access to quality of life than you have right now. Your dignity and respect can and should never be compromise for anything. If you think this is as good as life can be for you and your family, then we can only pray for your continuous happiness.

We are with the opinion that your children can go to better schools. Have better medical care and access to medical facilities. You should not be spending D900 on a bag of sugar and your salary should not be barely enought to buy you a bag of rice.

Sir, this is not about Jammeh or Jawara or John. This is about us, our children and their future. How many of our young sisters, daughters die from premature birth due to simple complications at birth? How many of those babies die simply because there are no incubators to sustain their lives? How many people die or are maimed from malaria and simple diseases that are preventable? Worst of all sir, how many of our fellow citizens scarvenge at the Bakoteh dumpsite searching for rotten food just to live for another day? If these things are not appaling to you, then I don't know what will. Think about this sir breadman and join your brothers in tears

I'm not sure if this is breadman to breadman. All the same, the message is sunken. Those who think Yahya Jammeh is working hard and think that is good reason to leave him misruling for life do need help. We are talking about more than 1.5 million persons boasting of Gambia as home. If one person serves up to 10 years as president, it is fair and proper to let others out of that 1.5 million to bring in something better. It is quite unreasonable and naive to impress on others that one and the only man in power is all O K to stay on. It is not about that person, his name, background or what you name it. The country needs moving and even trains and coaches change driver. Why would a state allow one person drive even if that person is drunk or merely sleeping? Think about that.

We the Gambians that voted for him have forgiven him if he had done anything to us, which I doubt he did. July 94 was a turning point for The Gambians. Remember when Jawara arrested and detain 32 Gambians from Brikama because they demonstrated against buying water. If you were there you will appreciate the army´s intervention.

Yes Karamba, but did you forget that just few months ago the was a general election in The Gambia and Jammeh was voted back in. However you point that after 10 years some one else should take over, Yes I agree but Gambians wanted to continue what he started so we give him one more chance. So am willing to give him this chance. I was not disappointed last time, and I hope i won´t be cos i trust him.
