If those weeded ones are the ones waging terror on the innocent civilians then its a welcomed move.

Madiba i agree with you. You see there has been many bla bla bla about revolution, changing society to the good, but none have come up with an a philosophy or original idea like Sankara and Nyerere.

Blaise is a fool and he now realises his severe mistake. he is erecting a monument to Sankara and other martyrs.

Is he ? Must have realized the grave error he had committed blinded by jealousy and greedy for power, TOO LATE. Sankara owned at his death 3 guitars, an old fridge and a reck of a car. The guy was a pragmatist. He inculcated in the minds of burkinabe youths self-reliance and nationalism. It is reported that most of the dev. plans Blaise is implementing now were his ideas. In addition Sankara despite being a soldier and head of state then never forgot the salient fact that real power was the peoples. On self-reliance burkinabes built many housing estates with little or no external donor assistance. The humility of the Sankara climaxed, wen once in downtown ouga the capital, his private car broke down and as he was soliciting assistance from on-lookers, he heard one of them whisper that its the president's car that's being pushed. He smiling replied MEME LE PAYS ON POUSSE meaning even the country we are pushing. That was the man briefly.

The start up of a massive clean up and reshaping of the NIA is a welcome news. I hope and pray that the President give Pa Jallow the support he needs to make the NIA an exemplary agency that truely conducts itself in a highly professional and service oriented manner.

The more professional the agency become, the more they can secure and protect our nation. They will do great service to the President and the nation if they work hard and conduct themselves in such manner that will earn them the respect of the citizenry.

Pa Jallow should be encouraged and given the right moral support he and his staff deserve to build a true national intellegent agency. Similar restructuring should be spread to the police, the military, and ultimately to the general civil service.

The President should know that he and the nation are better protected when the NIA are more specialized in national security issues instead of acting as police, army or what not. Gambians expect a professional agency competent in the services they provide to the nation. We are very optimistic about this courageous move in the right direction. Keep it up...

You are right on that one too. Tanzanian used to call Nyerere MWALIMU I think its Swahilli meaning The TEACHER. Its a corrupted arabic word MWALIM Knower or Teacher. He tried for that country and its neighbours in their drive to be truly independent. In his days there was a proliferations of schools of all kinds in Tanzania. Many Gambians have been trained there too.

This is just a smokescreen. A mere directive as to who has the ultimate power to detain a suspect is not sufficient. The APRC regime should repeal the entire DECREE that gave birth to the National Intelligence Agency.

Clean sweeping the NIA can't be a bad thing can it. Every country needs an Intelligence Agency and one of the pre-requistes is for those offficers to act with intelligence. Therefore streamlining procedures having greater internal transparency and accountability is a more positive way forward. And will hopefully stop people from arrested unnnecessarily and for prolonged periods.
