Babylon - your questioning of hygiene/dangerous diseases & soap & water.....Studies have shown that a circumcised male is less likely to acquire sexually transmitted disease/HIV from sexual intercourse. This is because in the UNcircumcised male, vaginal secretions from an infected female containing HIV or other STD's causing germs may be retained within the foreskin after sexual intercourse. The foreskin can also become damaged during intercourse allowing HIV to enter through a break in the skin. Wishing you a carefree pregnancy, regards, sab.

Serenata, Do you know if there a high proportion of Jewish women using the female condom & chemical gels? as I find your remarks on cervical cancer interesting. Women are generally more at risk of HIV/STD/cervical diseases because they are the 'RECEPTIVE' rather than 'active' partner allowing quantities of infected semen to remain behind for some time in the vagina. Sorry it has gone off the subject posting! |

Cervical cancer is related to how many partners and if barrier protection is used. PerhapsJewish women are more faithful? Or perhaps they traditionally use more barrier methods?
Also the YOUNGER women are when they start having sex the more prone to cervical cancer they are AND if they SMOKE. So perhaps Jewish women live a more protected, old fashioned life inthe family?
Young girls having lots of partners, not using condoms and smoking are building up multiple risk factors. Nuns have none of these risk factors. |

Thanx Sab
Of course, soap and water sounded a bit silly. I meant more the hygiene aspects than diseases like HIV and stdīs, that men who are uncircumcised are considered dirtier and smellier than their circumcised brothers. Most people take a shower once or twice a day nowadays, so I donīt really believe that uncircumcised guys have more hygiene issues than others. I also believe that the best protection against Hiv still is using condoms, some men may think that just because they are circumcised they donīt have to use condoms...
Have a nice Sunday afternoon everyone! |

Sorry, Sab, I don't know. And I don't remember where I found these statistics. But I don't think more Jewish women use the female condom or chemical gels. What you say about HIV/STD is absolutely right.
If you look at the World AIDS Map you see that HIV prevalence is higher in African countries with a Christian majority:
http://data.unaids.org/pub/GlobalReport/2006/2006GR-PrevalenceMap_en.pdf
Also interesting on this map are the lower infection rates in a Muslim country like Indonesia, compared to its Buddhist or Hindu neighbours where men are not circumcised. More likely than not Muslim women have less sexual partners than Western Christians, but the same is probably right for traditional Hindu and Buddhist women. So I think the problem is on the men's side.
Gambiabev, I don't know if cervix cancer is really related to the number of partners, but a simple comparison of (abstinent) nuns and (sexually active) Christian/Jewish women seems to be ok - though for a well-founded theory one should also compare the data of Muslim women. |

Not just the number of partners, but the age you start having sex! I dont have statistics, but as a teacher, this is what we are told for sex education. WAIT WAIT WAIT and then be FAITHFUL!!!!!! Or if this is impossible ALWAYS use a condom!!!! |

I think Western Christians would be very MORAL too, and in general have few partners and be faithful to those partners. The traditional Christian teaching is that sex outside of marriage is immoral. Christians and Muslims and Jews have alot in common in their moral teaching.
BUT Western countries such as the UK are NOT STRONGLY Christian any more. MOST teenagers in UK dont think sex outside of marriage is a big deal and dont think babies outside of marriage are a big deal either.
I would never have considered having children outside of marriage because of my Christian upbringing, even though I am not a Christian anymore. Nowadays that is considered very oldfashioned! |

Bev, I was brought up Catholic, but I would never have considered having children outside of marriage because of my blatant egoism...
Once I met a terrible bootlicker who told me how much he admired women who are 'strong' enough to raise their children alone. Immediately I knew that his real intent was to sleep around without taking responsibilities. I think he didn't forget me a while longer...!! |
