Kondorong,
I see that you have a good knoledge of our history. This is very important to us as we have many children in the diaspora. Once my children asked even if we had kings in the SeneGambian region. All these should be passed to the children in the diaspora. We have study circles on African Culture every Sunday for all intrested. I have realised that many Finish women who have children with Gambians are very much intrested. I hope you are teaching this stuff to your children Kons. Most of them would be very happy to here all possitive things that took place in the region.
We should even encourage our children to go home and trace their family lines. This my children have started and are in Senegal this winter. In Sweden there are private people and institutions that give Scholarship for such things. Even for a child to go and learn ex playing the Kora, Xalam or Belengo, Kutiro ect.

Kons that is one wollof proverb i don't agree with. God knows how many times i have burnt my mouth with hot food while using a spoon. The degree of burn depending on how well you "foof"(cool down the food by blowing with the mouth. Then again again i had an elder brother who is fast eater and seems to be immuned to heat. You either compete or you are under-nurished. Sadly for me i had to burn my mouth countless time. The usual suspect food were CHOORA GERTEH(in the morning) and DOMODA(lunchtime, while sweating profusely under mid-day sun).

Shaka,
The proverb is slightly different from your intepretation. What it simply meanss in this connection is , his children have him to narate the history instead struggling to ask some body else. This is how i interprit it. We should always attribute the sense in the proverb with the situation when used. I am sorry if you have another meaning for the proverb.

I have been there. There was always a sibling that ate faster and immune to heat no matter what. If you cant beat them join them.

However, the idea behind the proverd is that only a fool should have a spoon and get ones fingers burnt in hot soup. You have the option to wait for it to cool down but its silly to burn ones fingers when you can dip the spoon. Atleast it saves your hands. The proverb is not about the mouth but the hands so its very relevant.

Ofcourse i know the meaning of the proverb the "sense behind it". Just cracking a joke!! Alhassan i think you are reading too much into my joke, besides the proverb isn't just only limited to narrating history to your children but to many other kinds of scenarios i everyday life.
