Allhsan I agree with you apart from the idea that weed isnt dangerous. In small amounts it probably isnt. But if you mix it with tobacco to smoke it then that is cancerous the same as smoking cigarettes. Also if you use it regularly there is more and more evidence coming to light that it causes (or enhances?) mental illnesses. Also using weed can bring young people into contact with people who are supplying heavier drugs and they may be tempted to try them.

As in most things in life, I think moderation is the key.
Tobacco is a very powerful drug, as is alcohol. They are legal drungs, but cause much damage and misery if over used. Moderate use can be fun!

My drug of choice is alcohol. It says on the bottle exactly what it is, I know how strong it is and what effect it is going to have on me. I know who much to drink and still be in control. In different countries different drugs are more or less acceptable. I dont understand in Gambia how smoking is acceptable and drinking isnt. Smoking cigarettes is probably the most damaging thing we can do to ourselves for our own health. Its better never to start because it is very very difficult to stop.

Gambiabev,
You consume alcohol, and smoke cig w´which are more dangerous than the grass you are worrying about. Listening to different medical persons , grass is used as a healer. Some Hiv/aids positive are in fact advised to smoke as medicine. The young people are already exposed to heavier drugs by those who smuggle them. I grew up with the people of JUNAK and their grass, but we have not have cases of murder of things by those who smoke the JINAK weed. We have had problems with drunkards killing innocent people going about their everyday business on the roads. It is still a problem with all the so called rastas who have no drivers licences in Europe, but drive drunk on the Gambian roads. These are the problems. I am sure you are aware of the fact that the drug squad from Gambia have been in Germany for studies about the drugs we are talking about here. We have less problem with the Junak weed, than with alcohol, heroin , cocane and opium. It is easy for you to be in Germany and point at the people of Junak. Yes in some families, it is more acceptable to smoke the Junak weed than drink drunk. Even the bible(Proverbs , chapter 32, verses 1-4)prohibits alcohol. The Europeans and Americans will make it look more harmful because they are making huge profits on alcohol ans cigarettes. They have already monopolised the process, denied the Africans and Asians so as to get more from them.Even in the Gambia where we speak of Islam and what Islam forbids, there is still a lots of alcohol damages than the JUNAK weed. I would like all Gambians on the forum to help the people of the islands with other crops and advise to grow. Junak is more peaceful than Banjul or Serrekunda or Bakau.

Lemon,
I suggest you debate on the real problems rather than blaiming JUNAK.
You have many problems under your mat. Deal with them first. Then we shall deal with JUNAK. We know who the bad ones are too.

I am not against them growing for their own use

I suggest you start to show the people of the islands respect and help them to grow other crops rather than blackmailing them vedios ect.

Mbay + LemonTime i couldnt agree with you more. Alhassan you suggestions, proposals and arguments are silly. infact if i may respectfully say, it is almost short of being selfish.

you make it sound like its legal to grow cannabis. what you fail to understand is that that there is a strong link between consumption and source. those in Bakau are consuming because those in Ginak are growing. if we reversed it, perhaps you will uinderstand the picture.

what do you mean we should show them respect. you want us to respect people who grow a drug!!!

being poor is not an excuse to grow illegal stuff.almost every one in the gambia is poor. Ginak is not the poorest part of the gambia. poorer people are growing groundnuts and are not even sure they will get paid for it.

why should we help them, can't they help themselves by doing something better. who told you they need help?

those Islands are the 'jewels' in our tourism sector, ignored for 40yrs. their tourism potential is huge. the islands are in the most beautiful part of Senegambia, above which you have the Sine-Saloum mangrove delta area as the rivers there empty into the Atlantic.

this is what makes me angry with gambians they sit and do nothing and foreigners come and with just a few dollars make millions.

this is one area the people of Ginak should develop for themselves rather than doing stupid things giving not only themselves a bad name but the whole country!

take some time to reflect, as you said they have being growing it for 200yrs and where are they???

Alhassan, just to clarify things. I dont smoke. I hate smoking.
Weed is used in Uk for medicinal purposes by some people. It helps relieve symptoms, but DOESNT CURE anything.

If they can grow weed then they should be able to cultivate other LEGAL crops that will help decrease our dependence on foreign imports.

Just my 2 bututs on this one.

Justice must be served as impunity brings more repression and corruption!

Well,
As for Lemon Time, one day you will come out of you hiding area after all lies. Mandela street as you said you lived does not exixt in Cape Town. Today you are in Asia tomorrow Gambia. Stop the lies. Most of the people on the forum hiding are not real Gambians. You can say what ever youi want. Come out and defend you arguements. I have given you multiple alternatives, but still you get assylum by lies about Gambia. What a shame on you people. I do not hide my opinion.
For a liars like you , you can say it. I do not condone with what some of you are doing here. You hide you herion dealers so as to make money, that make the youths mad and then worry the people of JUNAK for nothing. I am sure, if we investigate properly, most of you pointing out JUNAK are worse than the guys shown on the vedio. Time will tell. As for Gambiabev, I dont blaim you. You just hang on with the lairs about Gambia. You do not seem to know much about Gambia as you pretend to do. Most of you pointing out JUNAK, are talking loud and saying nothing. Take it as you wish. JUNAK is not going to fall because of people like you. I shall always be on their side.
