The police are probably involved in some capacity

Which island is this? I couldn't make it out in the video.

Justice must be served as impunity brings more repression and corruption!

Aku_Pickin. this is shocking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i can't believe this. The ISLAND IS GINAK !!.if you listen carefully you will hear it. IT is a pair of islands on the western most part of the North Bank. one half went to Senegal and the other half remained Gambian shortly before Independence.but the people are the same family

this is sad as this is a nice place with very entreprising people. i mean legally. i know a couple.

I wouldnt say it a no go area for the Police the fact that they took Spanish tourist there tell you that this is being done openly with the Villagers fully aware of it.

i hope some one at Police HQ is reading. the last thing we need is for The Gambia to be a drug haven.

Lemon,
Please read through before replying.
Mybe this is the first time you people know about JINAK. There islands are withn the Gambia territory and inhabited by fishermen. It is true that they grow grass, but they have not being given another alternative to grow some other crops. The salt content on the islands that nothing grows. People of the islands have to go far away on the mainland for farming. How many of you misinformed people know about their problem? This vedio is nothing compared with the Herion and cocane found in Banjul and grater Banjul area. Before , the people of JINAK did not accept such because they are not criminal. They have not been encouraged top bring their stuff and sell, because of the police controll. Nowadays , I suspect the younger generation of trying to make the islands Jamican. People of the islands have been growing and smoking for the past two hundred years. Have any of you tried to controll their brains for damage of tried to find out the crime rate on the islands? I am not defending drugs, but Jinak is not like Banjul or Serekunda , Bakau with many drug adits and sellers. I think we have to fight first the smugglers at the airport and the habour, where all herion and cocane enters Gambia without controll. Furthermore, the grass grown on the islands are not of the same quality as in europe. I suggest you start to show the people of the islands respect and help them to grow other crops rather than blackmailing them vedios ect. All of you on the forum blaiming the People of Jinak should go there and help them to develop their ways of living rather than spreading your misinformative vedios. I doubt if those who took the picture informed the youths on the vedio what they were going to do with it.
Our grandfathers and fathers have been smoking before all of you were born, and how many of you grew up in homes with drug. Gambia is already a drug heven when it comes to herion and cocane. We do not grow these crops but Gambians are very much involved in trafficking these drugs, both at home and in the EU and US. There are over hundreds of gambian youths in the jails accross the world, and not many of them come from JINAK if there are any. the people of the islands are not as you label them. The only thing they have common with Bob Marley is the Black skin. We are not Jamicans but Gambians.
The youths on the said vedio are just pulling peoples legs about the island. I know the islands since I have had students from KAYJATTA, NYIGI and JATAKO . I realy have a different experience when I was there. Then you can only cross with a small canoe. The students and their parents that i used to visit are not the types shown on the vedio. Time has realy changed. People of the islands are peaceful and hard working.

You are quite right. The people of the island have not encouraged anybody to go and buy. They have the right to grow as the palm wine tappers, and those who cook spirit. The problem is the cost of alkohol damages in the Gambia are more than that of the grass from Ginak. This are issues that we should consider. I am not against them growing for their own use. Have any of you or the Gambian labs, tried to test the plants from Ginak? All of you here who consume alkohol knows that the injuries involved in alkohol consumtion are far more than that of Grass. We should try and stop those who put Gambia on the drug map. It is not the people of Ginak. If you people are honest you have relatives who are involved some how in trafficking or pushing of drugs in Europe or the US. It is these people that have put Gambia on the drug map. Gambia is well known as a transit country of drugs that is not grown in the country. There are no medical facts that the grass from Ginak especially is harmful. I suggest we deal with issues that are problems to our society. The people of the islands are neither dependant nor violent. They go about their buisness and even pax taxes and bring incom from fishing. Those we need to deal with are the Herion, cocane and opium smugglars that encourage our youths to use these hurrible drugs. Most of the worst drug abusers are being depotted from the EU and the US. Those are the ones that kill and rub poor people. It is more dengerous to live Banjul and the greater Banjul than Ginak when it comes to drug abuse. This is my opinion
