the dakar born Gambian Actor , Lamin (Jonny) Secka died last month in California.
some of you/gambians would remember him in the film '' Mohamed'' about the prophet where he played bilal. those from Europe/UK will remember him in the Babylon 5 series.
it sad that The Gambia never recognised one of her sons. you can read his obituary from the Guardian in London.

May his soul rest in peace. I never knew. I watched some of his films. There are many Gambians quite successful but who are not recognised by the motherland. That is very unfortunate. I have notced that gambians are only successful outside the country and even that, we dont realy recognise their achievements. |

May his soul R.I.P! May Allah the ALMIGHTY FORGIVE HIM!
However he is more venerated in Senegal than Gambia, just like Sheikh Anta D'iop (intellectual) and Senegal always fought tooth and nail to own him and his achievements in the film and artists industry. Gambia need to preserve its heritage and its good sons and daughters. "Ndey saan" its different under Gambian culture because politics is detroying the nation and many are losts souls and their potentials and achievements not recognised and honoured.
So the saying does; "Prophets are not honoured at home!" |

well, i think he could have contributed a lot to help develop our 'Arts & Culture' atleast give it an international face. I read he was close to Sydney Poitier. With things like the Roots Festival people like this come to mind.

Good point Njucks. Don't see the other side of the coin. However from his profile he appears to be a lost soul and out of touch with his roots , culture and patriotism. |

Njucks. Apology to your sense of perception. You raised a political point if he was living why he didn't do this or that....and I reacted with my own sensibilities of what I thought might put him off those projects or initiatives you stated only to be on the hook?
Am sorry for the sentiments expressed and any oversights as no one is perfect. However you raised an important point and is noted.
Take note also that naturally the temperaments are different i.e. during life (when he was alife) and after death ( moaning his tragedic departure from this world)!
You are gifted to be within your senses and very sober as complimentary! |

P.B.H But was he a Senegambia? Some time we don’t have to blame us when some of our soul ducks away, Did he ever took season or some great things at home like Dz Washington or Opra W? And surely no one deported him or?

being so young and not too far i'm sure she is in touch with her roots and the gambian community in Denmark.
it would be good if some of her movies made it to gambian TV |

She is in many TV series for children and has a celebrity status in Denmark. I think her contact with the Gambian community is very minimal.
Yes it would be very good to have some of her movies on Gambian TV specially the children TV Series. Danish children love her.

Haddy Jallow is a Gambian born shooting star in Sweden. So far she has made one film, "Say that you love me" and is not particularly interested in being an actress but rather opening her own shop in Stockholm. http://www.ukgambians.com/haddy-actress.htm |

I have seen the movie. It´s quite a schocking reminder about the tough life young girls and boys experience today. |
