Hi, you can download both the "Wolof Grammar Manual" and "Wolof Dictionary" in PDF from the language menu of The Gambia Resource Page.

I don't want to be negative but I have the dictionary and my b/f spent a good deal of time when I was last there attempting to teach me without a great deal of success. The pronounciation is very difficult (well I found it so - to the great amusement of my b/f). I did, however, begin to understand a little of the conversations he was having with his friends (a lot of modern words are quite similar to the English or French equivilent and once you know the basics its easy to guess the rest).

Anyhow hope you find someone willing to give you lessons and you find it easier than I have - good luck!

The language of LOVE is the same the world over!!!

Being a suspicous and curious person my main motive for learning mandinka or wolof would be so I could understand the mobile phone calls that pass between people!!! LOL!!!

Thanks Leokat! But, so is English very difficult pronouciation, but i learnt some when i was five!! It's just a question of how hard you want to try, like everything else in life.
When i'm in Gambia the Wolof language is always on my mind, but back home, i tend to loose touch with it, because i'm not hearing it spoken.
