Independent observers report under
Foreign observers thumb-up Gambia’s election process http://www.observer.gm/enews/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=5828&Itemid=33
Dr Salim lauds IEC http://www.observer.gm/enews/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=5827&Itemid=33&PHPSESSID=5b62eb17ed71a93b5b9a8f9dd90a3fdd
MAIN POINTS EXTRACTED FROM ABOVE REPORTS:
"The Independent Electoral Commission deserves to be congratulated for a job well done. On the basis of the above, we are inclined to conclude that on the election day, the process was well organised and things went smoothly. The voters were able to express their will and the result will reflect their wish. A presidential election is a process. We have been made to be aware of events in the lead up to the election day which might have impacted on the outcome. The timing of the president’s Dialogue with the People tour and the open demonstration of support by public officers for a particular party, especially those in the security services, have the potential of affecting the level of the playing field. These as well as other manifestations of abuse of incumbency will be considered and form a part of our overall judgement of the entire process.
The election was held amidst the background of commonwealth brokered Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for political parties as concluded on 2 September 2005. That understanding created an atmosphere conducive for the strengthening of the democratic process in The Gambia. Significantly, all the political parties who have met with us declared their recognition of and support for the MOU. It is nonetheless a fact that the MOU has not been adhered to. It is our considered judgement that whatever the outcome of the election, in the interest of stability, understanding and cooperation, the political parties should endeavour to adhere to the spirit and letter of the MOU"

TRUTH, RECONCILIATION AND NATIONAL UNITY can be set and the opposition party leaders and vetran politicians given the mandate to address issues of concern in improving Jammeh's legacy in human rights, democracy, justice and law enforcement.
The law enforcement agencies and public servants have a unique role in JUSTICE, PEACE AND STABILITY. They roles are the elements or perpetrators of "IMPARTIALLITY AND FAIRNESS" OR "JUSTICE AND EQUITY". Do we need soldiers and other law enforcement agencies to wear party materials and openly display their support in GAMBIAN DEMOCRACY and 21st Century or this NEW ERA?

The APRC Was Helped in Two Ways - Halifa
http://www.thepoint.gm/headlines1229.htm
MAIN POINTS EXTRACTED FROM ABOVE LINK:
"In an interview with this reporter, Halifa Sallah said that the breakaway of the UDP/NRP from NADD was a contributing factor in Jammeh’s victory on the 22 September.
“We have maintained that no single party alone taking the lead, will be able to defeat the APRC party. We need a new umbrella party which was not tarnished in any way to do the job,” he said, adding that they have been proven right by virtue of the fact that even though Hamat, Darbo and Gomez came together under the umbrella of UDP, that alliance could not do the job.
“Secondly the APRC did not separate State from party during the campaign. In this type of campaign, resources and public servants were under the control of the APRC campaign machinery,” he added.

| Darboe is not a coward! Halifa Sallah should not blame jammeh's win on UDP-led alliance. He could have joined the coalition instead for the sake of change but no, he is a very principled guy. |

A strategic coalition (NADD) was independently inaugurated by SAVE THE GAMBIA DEMOCRACY PROJECT (STGDP). Let UDP/NRP return back to that platform to account and address us! Congrats to Halifa for staying on course and maintaining NADDs pride!
SHAME ON THOSE LEADERS FOR FAILING US! |
