Barely four days to the September 22nd president election, thousands of voters in the former opposition strongholds of Serrekunda central and Bakau constituencies have announced their defection to the ruling APRC party and vowed to declare their constituencies to APRC.

According to the defectors, their oppositions in the last 10 year has caused them a lot of hardship.Speaking on behalf of the defectors in Bundung and Serrekunda yesterday, Alieu Nyancho Sanneh said "enough is enough. Halifa Sallah has been fooling us for so long with baseless arguments. He cannot solve our problems and he cannot develop Serrekunda Central. We need somebody who can bail us out from hardship. To salvage us, President Jammeh is the answer. We will unseat Halifa and vote for the president to be able have peace and development. We are done with Halifa Sallah" he vowed.

For his part, Alpha Omar Jallow, the APRC constituency chairman for Bakau said Bakau belongs to APRC now and ever. "We have switched allegiance to APRC. Our opposition for the past years did not yield anything good for the people of Bakau. Our roads are bad, we have no street lights neither do we have enough social amenities." Both the Alkalo of Bakau Keluntang Jaiteh and the National Assembly member Kalifa Jammeh adopts the statements of their constituency chairman.

Honourable Neneh MacDouall-Gaye the Secretary of State for Communication Information and Technology who also doubles as the SoS responsible for political affairs in Kombo Saint Mary Region informed the youths of Bakau and Serrekunda that President Jammeh will provide them with their basic needs. She said 95 percent of the youth going to the University are all government sponsored. "He also put up NYSS for you the youth to be able to develop yourselves. Youth development is high on President Jammeh's agenda", She said.

SoS MacDouall-Gaye revealed that the next five years mandate of President Jammeh will yield a lot of good for the youth and called on the youth to vote for President Jammeh for their own development.

For his part Yankuba Touray, SoS for Agriculture who is also the national mobiliser of the ruling APRC noted that the warm welcome accorded to them in Bakau and Serrekunda Central, the two former opposition strongholds confirms that come the September 22nd elections, APRC party will win in both constituencies. He said the oppositions in the Gambia are not reasonable. He wondered how Halifa Sallah could rule a whole country if he cannot control a five-man committee. He said the ward that comes out with the highest number of votes for APRC party in Serrekunda Central will get water supply free of charge.

For his part, The Gambian leader President Yahya Jammeh in a short statement, told the people of the two constituencies to vote for their development. "Your development is to vote for APRC party. APRC party is the only party that can develop this country in all avenues.

It is a pity that the APRC government is denying and thretening to deny development projects to constituencies that elect opposition candidates. Is this constitutional ? This is a clear testimony that this government needs to go.
Apparently all these defectors are defecting because they and their constituencies have been or will be abandoned by the government for their election of the opposition. We need a better government than this! The funding of development projects should not be under the absolute clutch of the president but approved by the National Assembly based on the priority of needs criteria.Every national assembly member should be able to propose a development project for his/her constituency and have it approved. After all the funds belong to the Gambian tax payers and not Jammeh and APRC who are bragging , pretending as if their personal money is funding the nation.
Gambian people should receive these political/economic threats and blackmail as arrogant as well as illegal and deny them their votes this coming election.

If development is held back because of the way one votes, then people in areas that are being denied projects, have a right to withold paying taxes. A TAX REVOLT will be the answer. Hit them where it hurts. If the government cannot collect taxes then the government will have a hard time functioning. It is the equivalent to International sanctions, except this time it is the people, the constituents holding the power. Will the APRC arrest every single Gambian for not paying taxes? I think not.

Justice must be served as impunity brings more repression and corruption!

Kayjatta did you know that because Darboe and co decided to opt out of the National Assembly reneging on their responsibilities they help to create a situation whereby the APRC had majority of the seats apart from three. Even if the opposition lose elections they must take up their seats in the NA. Let's hope by 23 the opposition can also learn to participate within the democratc process by fufilling their own obligations and start taking responsibility for their past actions whicvh has helped to create some of the above problems for their supporters or if the reports are to be true their ex- supporters. Let's hope political maturity later on in today's election is exercised by all party leaders and voters in Gambia. May Our Creator Bless Gambia and may she live in peace and flourish for future generations to come! Peace Sister Omega

But nobody stopped Halifa's PDOIS to fill candidates in all the 48 constituencies. Why have they not done it? Those who cannot provide answers to this question must either desist from pointing fingers towards Darboe or shut-up. he is one person. If he don't do it , why can't somebody else do it.

Thanks

I do not oppose unity but I oppose dumb union.
