KAFUTA GETS NEW ALKALO
Villagers Still Polarised

By Bubacarr K. Sowe

Despite the appointment of Basolli Bojang as Alkalo of Kafuta, the old man has said that there are still elements in his village who do not recognise him and are undermining his authority.

Speaking to Foroyaa on Friday, the man indicated that people who are not comfortable with his appointment have divided the village.
"Whenever I call upon them they defy me simply because they do not recognise me. I have tried to summon a meeting three times since my appointment, but nobody responded," he said.
Bojang added that his opponents vowed that they will not accept him as Alkalo and will appoint their own Alkalo.

A letter dated 29th August 2006 from the office of the Governor of Western Division addressed to Mr. Bojang reads:
"I am directed to write and appoint you as Alkalo of Kafuta village with immediate effect. Having assumed Alkaloship of Kafuta, I urge you to keep the unity of the village intact. You can collect the stamp and other village materials."

The head of the Village Development Committee (VDC), Nfamara Colley, who is one of those accused by the current Alkalo of opposing him has said that he is not aware of Mr. Bojang appointment as the Alkalo of the village.
"I don't know that he is the Alkalo here, because nobody has told me and I was not shown anything to prove it. Infact, I have no business with Alkaloship. It belongs to the Bojangs they are the ones who choose the Alkalo. Any Alkalo who comes and wants to work with me I am ready to work with him/her. Who appointed him, I don't know? How can he just sit down and 'I say I am the Alkalo; I called them.' Who called me? Nobody came to call me. He does not also recognise me as the head of the VDC; he appointed his own VDC," Mr. Colley said.
